Under general direction of Garage Superintendent. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Making routine security rounds throughout the property to ensure that the correct lights are on/off and that doors, windows and trucks are locked; Monitoring area for hazards, vandals, etc.; Receiving, recording and relaying necessary information by telephone and/or radio; Performing general maintenance duties as needed. NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs related Essential and Non-Essential functions as needed. I. JOB REQUIREMENTSEquipment: Ability to use a battery charger and portable radios. Critical Skills/Expertise: Basic knowledge of security practices and principles; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Ability to recognize unusual, threatening or hazardous conditions and take appropriate security actions; Ability to stay alert at all times during shift; Knowledge of and ability to follow departmental policies and procedures, and oral and/or written instructions. II. RESPONSIBILITY Work involves a variety of routine tasks performed in accordance with established and prescribed procedures. Supervisor provides general guidance allowing for the planning of procedures and methods to attain objectives. Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard checking resulting in little or no difficulty in loss of time to correct. III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS Incumbent has contact with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. The purpose of these contacts is to maintain security and communicate any problems or concerns. IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENTPhysicalRequirements: Work is described as light work, requiring the Incumbent to walk for extended periods of time. Physical Activity: Incumbent performs the following physical activities: climbing, walking, talking, and hearing. Visual Activity: Incumbent performs work where the seeing job is beyond arm's reach. Job Location: Incumbent works both inside and outside with no effective protection from the weather. Position RequirementsVACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT The Portage County Engineer is accepting applications from persons interested in the part-time position of Watchman. The selected candidate is responsible for ensuring the well-being of all property and valuables belonging to the County Engineering Department, making routine security rounds throughout the property, monitoring area for hazards, vandals, etc., receiving, recording and relaying necessary information by telephone and performing general maintenance duties as needed. Incumbent is under general direction of the Garage Superintendent. Minimum qualifications include basic knowledge of security practices and principles, ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, ability to recognize unusual, threatening or hazardous conditions and take appropriate security actions, ability to stay alert at all times during shift, knowledge of and ability to follow departmental polices and procedures, and oral and/or written instructions. Hours of work are Saturday and Sunday 8 am to 4 pm and Holidays. Successful applicant must pass a drug screen. Rate of pay is $24.69 per hour.
