Job Description Situated in Downtown’s 2nd Street District, Austin Proper Hotel and Residences offers an artful immersion in lifestyle and wellbeing. With an emphasis on collaboration, Austin Proper features both inspired interiors by acclaimed designer Kelly Wearstler and is guided by the culinary creativity of Austin tastemaker MML Hospitality. Essentials include 238 rooms and suites; 99 branded residences; four unique settings for dining and drink; a focus on wellness with a dedicated spa and fitness center; and a variety of atmospheric event spaces. And it wouldn’t be Proper without a 5th floor pool deck offering small-batch tequilas and sunset views. Position Overview The Director of Revenue Management is responsible for developing and executing the revenue optimization strategy to maximize profitability across all revenue streams. This role involves analyzing market trends, pricing strategies, and demand forecasts to ensure the organization achieves its revenue goals. The Director will work closely with sales, marketing, operations, and finance teams to implement dynamic pricing models, optimize inventory, and drive growth. This position requires a combination of strategic thinking, data-driven decision-making, and leadership to achieve sustainable revenue growth and improve operational efficiency. Essential Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesRevenue Optimization Strategy Develop and implement a comprehensive revenue optimization strategy that drives profitable growth across all revenue streams (e.g., rooms, F&B, events, and ancillary services). Identify opportunities to optimize pricing, inventory, and sales strategies based on market demand, competitive landscape, and guest behavior. Create and manage dynamic pricing models to maximize revenue without compromising guest satisfaction or brand integrity. Collaborate with leadership teams to define pricing guidelines and optimize segmentation to increase profitability. Data Analysis & Reporting Use data analytics and business intelligence tools to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), identify trends, and generate actionable insights. Analyze historical data, booking patterns, and market conditions to forecast demand, adjust pricing, and manage inventory effectively. Prepare and present regular revenue performance reports, highlighting opportunities, risks, and results, to senior management. Conduct detailed competitor analysis to monitor pricing strategies and ensure competitiveness in the marketplace. Pricing & Inventory Management Oversee room pricing, inventory control, and distribution strategies to ensure maximum revenue per available room (RevPAR). Optimize the allocation of rooms across various distribution channels (e.g., direct bookings, OTAs, group bookings) to ensure a balanced and profitable mix. Implement and monitor pricing adjustments in response to shifts in market demand, competitor pricing, or business priorities. Develop and execute strategies for optimizing transient and group business, ensuring pricing and availability meet demand forecasts. Cross-Departmental Collaboration Work closely with the sales, marketing, operations, and finance teams to align revenue optimization strategies with overall business goals. Provide pricing and inventory recommendations to the sales and marketing teams to enhance promotional campaigns and targeted marketing efforts. Collaborate with the operations team to ensure operational constraints are considered when setting revenue optimization strategies. Partner with finance and budgeting teams to ensure that revenue forecasts are accurate and aligned with financial goals. Forecasting & Budgeting Lead the development and execution of short-term and long-term revenue forecasts, ensuring alignment with business goals. Participate in budgeting and financial planning processes, providing data-driven insights to support revenue projections and operational budgets. Ensure that forecasts are regularly updated based on actual performance, market trends, and changes in the business environment. Team Leadership & Development Lead and mentor a team of revenue management professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Provide training, coaching, and guidance on revenue management principles, pricing strategies, and analytical techniques. Set clear goals and performance expectations for the team, conducting regular performance reviews and providing actionable feedback. Technology & Tools Management Oversee the implementation and optimization of revenue management systems (RMS), business intelligence tools, and other technology platforms used for forecasting, pricing, and analytics. Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve revenue optimization processes. Ensure that all revenue management tools and systems are properly maintained and updated to meet evolving business needs. Market & Competitive Insights Continuously monitor and analyze market trends, competitor activities, and consumer behavior to adjust pricing strategies accordingly. Identify and evaluate new revenue opportunities, including upselling, cross-selling, and new service offerings. Conduct regular reviews of market segmentation, guest behavior, and booking channels to ensure optimized pricing for each segment. Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Economics, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in revenue management, pricing strategy, or a similar analytical role, with a proven track record in driving revenue growth. Previous experience in the hospitality industry is preferred, but other sectors with similar revenue optimization practices may also be considered. Strong knowledge of revenue management systems, pricing models, and data analytics tools (e.g., RMS, Excel, BI platforms). Experience leading a team and collaborating cross-functionally with sales, marketing, and operations teams. Skills/Specialized KnowledgeExpertise in data analysis, revenue forecasting, pricing strategies, and demand management. Strong business acumen and the ability to develop actionable insights from data and market trends. Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team of revenue management professionals. Proficiency in revenue management software, business intelligence tools, and advanced Excel skills. Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing market conditions, and make quick, data-driven decisions. In-depth knowledge of the competitive landscape, market segmentation, and booking channels in the hospitality or related industries. Physical DemandsAbility to work in a fast-paced office environment, managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to sit for extended periods and work on a computer. Occasional travel may be required for industry events, conferences, and market research.
