For more information, visit Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider - Trauma SICU Requisition Number: req29108 Location: John Peter Smith Hospital Job Description:Job Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider practices under the direct supervision of the Surgery/Critical Care supervising physician and is responsible for assisting with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations within the inpatient setting. This position will also educate patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments; order tests and serve as a patient's healthcare provider. Duties and Essential Job Functions: Collaborates with the Trauma/General Surgeons, Critical Care Intensivists and other APPs in overseeing and coordinating the multidisciplinary care delivered to all SICU patients, to optimize quality patient care. Reviews patient medical charts to assist physicians with diagnosis, treatment and care management. Makes appropriate patient referrals as necessary. Monitors guidelines for the management of care and for ensuring that the services are delivered in compliance with the guidelines established by JPS Health Network and Acclaim Physician Group. Provides care education to patients and families. Provides evidence-based and compassionate care to all patients assigned to improve patient outcomes and increase patient satisfaction scores. Maintains a collaborative environment with providers, clinical staff, and support staff. Supports academic, educational and research endeavors. Attends Performance Improvement Programs and Peer Review committee meetings; and is an active participant in the process. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Knowledge of advanced techniques and care management within specialty area. Knowledge and understanding of customer service principles. Knowledge of safety and security principles. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations. Skill in solving mathematic computations needed to accurately calculate medication dosages and assist with reports and collection and analysis of data. Skilled in analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and making recommendations. Time management skills. Ability to collaborate with referring physicians, residents, clinical staff and support staff to provide quality patient care. Ability to present information or ideas concisely, accurately, and clearly verbally and in writing. Ability to delegate tasks appropriately, with consideration for educational level, age and developmental stage of employee. Ability to work well under pressure. Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: Master's or Doctoral Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing OR Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program AND 2 years of clinical experience preferred. Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: Must have current Texas Physician Assistant license or Texas APRN license (AGACNP/ACNP) with RNFA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification Pediatric Life Support (PALS) Preferred Education and experience: Specialty training with ultrasound interpretation and procedures preferred Specialty training with central lines, arterial lines and chest tube insertion preferred Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reading, writing, talking, use of computer Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone systems, and person - to -person and to perform assessments such as obtaining blood pressure, cardiac or breath sounds. Clear concise speaking ability to provide information and instruction. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
