FL-DOACS-Kissimmee-Animal Industry-Veterinary Pathologist - Candidate can elect to work FT or PT. Must be a board certified Florida pathologist (Veterinary). FL-DOACS-Kissimmee-Animal Industry-Veterinary Pathologist Pay Rate: $80.00/hr / Vendor Rate: $104.00/hr. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Must be a board certified Florida pathologist (Veterinary). Veterinary Pathology residency, ACVP Board certification preferred. Eligibility for licensure as a veterinarian in accordance with F.S. 474. Valid Class E Driver's License. Must pass a pulmonary function test with a medical evaluation, must undergo and pass regular respirator fit testing. SKILLS REQUIRED: Supervisory experience Client service Experience Experience in gross anatomical pathology and necropsies CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages and provides diagnostic and consultative services to veterinary practitioners, animal owners and producers, and regulatory officials. Assists with overall technical, managerial, and fiscal operations of the laboratory Performs gross and microscopic examination of animal tissues. Prepares thorough, comprehensive reports of such findings. Assures that data generated from test results are conveyed accurately. Provides rapid notification of reportable disease results to Pathology Section Head and Laboratory Director. Develops a working knowledge of routine laboratory assays and obtains proficiency for testing in assigned area. Maintains working knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and utilizes this tool for case coordination and reporting. Routinely reviews scientific periodicals and literature for information pertinent to the laboratory, including new techniques that could, if adopted, improve the diagnostic services of the bureau. Keeps the Pathology Department Head and Laboratory Director informed of all issues of administrative, logistical, diagnostic, and regulatory concern. Undertakes gross anatomical pathology duties on a weekly rotational basis and participates in the case load of animal tissue slides submitted for microscopic examination. Monitors inventory for supplies, equipment, and materials for supervised areas of operation. A VETERINARIAN PATHOLOGIST SERVES AS HEAD OF THE NECROPSY SECTION: a)Oversees the daily operations of the necropsy section. Prepares a weekly and monthly schedule of necropsy services for the gross examination of carcasses, appropriate collection and distribution of samples for analysis to different sections of the laboratory, as well as to third party laboratories. b) Assumes responsibility of the direct supervision of the necropsy Laboratory Helper, necropsy Laboratory Technician I, and the veterinarian position. c) Maintains direct communication with the facilities manager to assure the proper maintenance of the crematorium, and of the necropsy suite. d) Responsible for the upkeep of the necropsy equipment, and the cleanliness and disinfection of the necropsy suite. Assures appropriate stock of supplies to preclude disruption of operations of the necropsy room. Prepares worksheets requesting supplies as needed. As a Veterinarian Pathologist serves as Head of the Necropsy Section: a)Oversees the daily operations of the necropsy section. In coordination with the Pathology Department's Quality Assurance (QA) Coordinator and Bureau QA Manager, develops quality assurance procedures and ensures that appropriate quality control methods , and biosafety standards are enforced and maintained. Monitors and resolves sample quality issues and performs testing troubleshooting and problem solving. Composes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), forms, uploads and update necropsy quality control records in Qpulse. The incumbent is required to participate in emergency planning and response exercises and/or preparedness for surge outbreaks of classic or foreign animal diseases.
