We are seeking experienced backend engineers to help build innovative, crypto-focused products and features, addressing complex technical problems that combine web-scale applications with blockchain technology. You will play a critical role in making cryptocurrency accessible globally, managing real-time applications with high-frequency, low-latency updates on a secure cloud infrastructure. Team Overview: The Growth organization creates features, products, and systems that consistently drive user growth through systematic execution. We take a comprehensive approach to the Coinbase user journey and focus on user acquisition, engagement, and retention. By developing and leveraging growth tools—including referral programs, a cutting-edge notifications system, an engaging logged-out web experience, and optimized onboarding—we ensure Coinbase is the easiest, safest, and fastest platform for buying, holding, and trading crypto assets, preparing new users for successful first interactions. Responsibilities: Build and run experiments aimed at enhancing the growth of Coinbase's retail products. Design scalable systems using modern cloud technology and industry best practices to solve novel challenges. Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems while managing the teams responsible for them. Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate our product and technical vision into actionable quarterly roadmaps. Write high-quality, well-tested code that meets customer needs. What we look for in you: A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering. Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services with a strong grasp of service-oriented architecture. Proficient in writing high-quality, well-tested code to effectively meet customer requirements. A passion for developing an open financial system that connects people globally. Nice to haves: Experience launching new products from 0 to 1. Familiarity with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks. Experience with blockchain technology, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. Proficiency in languages and technologies such as Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB. Experience in building fintech systems that are highly reliable or secure. Exposure to crypto, including engagement with Ethereum addresses, use of ENS, or interactions with decentralized applications or blockchain services. Compensation: Base salary range of $186,065 - $218,900 USD, plus bonus eligibility, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
