The Health Information Technician (HIT) assigned to the Storeroom functions primarily as a medical inventory clerk, supporting hospital operations through inventory management, supply coordination, and administrative tasks. This role may lean more administrative or more inventory-focused depending on operational needs. Key ResponsibilitiesAdministrative & Communication Duties Perform routine administrative tasks to support physicians, healthcare practitioners, and nursing units Answer incoming phone calls and take verbal orders as needed Respond to internal customer and external supplier inquiries regarding order status, changes, or cancellations Maintain a professional, approachable customer service attitude at all times Promote and uphold the organization's mission, vision, and values Inventory & Storeroom Operations Order medical supplies from approved suppliers and maintain accurate inventory records Unpack, inspect, and verify supplies upon receipt; report discrepancies promptly Perform cycle counts and routine stock checks as required Monitor inventory levels and notify the Purchasing Agent when reordering is necessary Rotate stock using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method Identify, remove, document, and properly package expired inventory Pack and prepare supplies for return or external shipment, ensuring correct return labels Equipment & Supply Management Ensure proper equipment is available for patient care (e.g., wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces) Identify and respond to equipment functionality issues or low supply levels Issue inventory and maintain PAR location records Retrieve requisitions from the Materials Management electronic supply system, fill orders, and deliver to requesting departments Inventory Control & Reporting Develop and support inventory control systems and best practices Track inbound and outbound inventory to prevent overstocking or out-of-stock (OOS) situations Coordinate logistics related to purchase orders, stock transfers, deliveries, tagging, and processing Generate purchase, pricing, and inventory reports Analyze supply chain data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement Maintain and update records related to purchase orders, pricing, and inventory levels Required Skills & Qualifications Strong written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required (experience should be clearly reflected on resume) Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work effectively in a secure, correctional healthcare environment This position is located within an adult prison system. Employees will be exposed to and work directly around incarcerated individuals.
