The Crane Operator (Marine Terminal) is responsible for transferring containers and breakbulk cargo between the pier and ships, and lifting, moving, and positioning operating and position heavy materials or equipment within the yard or terminal. This role will primarily be operating a tracked boom crane at a Marine Terminal, transferring containers between the ship and the shore. The role requires precision, adherence to safety standards, and coordination with team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Key Responsibilities: 1. Crane Operation: o Safely operate cranes to lift, move, and place cargo, materials, or equipment. o Maneuver crane controls to ensure accurate placement of loads. o Perform operations according to load charts and safety guidelines. o Other duties as assigned. 2. Safety Compliance: o Conduct pre-operation checks on cranes to ensure they are in safe working condition. o Follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents, including proper load rigging and weight capacity adherence. o Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and promote a safe working environment. 3. Load Handling: o Coordinate with signalers or spotters to lift and position loads accurately. o Secure loads using appropriate rigging, slings, or chains. o Monitor the load's stability during lifting and movement. 4. Equipment Maintenance: o Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on cranes, such as lubrication and inspections. o Report any malfunctions or damage to supervisors immediately. o Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the crane. 5. Team Collaboration: o Work closely with yard supervisors, laborers, and other operators to ensure efficient operations. o Communicate effectively with ground crew using signals or radios. o Assist with other yard duties as needed when not operating the crane. 6. Additional Duties as Assigned. Skills and Qualifications: • Technical Skills: Knowledge of rigging techniques and load weight calculations. • Physical Stamina: Capability to work in physically demanding environments, including standing and climbing. • Communication Skills: Clear communication with team members and adherence to hand signals or radio instructions. Required Qualifications: • Must have a valid NCCCO Certificate, for lattice boom mobile cranes. • Must be fluent in Spanish, bilingual preferred. • Available to work nights and weekends, with rotating shifts as needed. • Experience operating a large forklift / Top loader preferred
