Job Description

The Shelborne by Proper The Shelborne Miami Beach is an iconic Art Deco destination reimagined for a new generation. Rooted in Miami Beach history and energized by contemporary culture, the property is designed to be a social anchor for locals, travelers, hotel guests, and members alike. Our nightlife venues — including the Lobby Bar and the intimate Little Torch cocktail lounge — are intended to be lived-in, magnetic, and culturally relevant, not programmed from a distance. Art, fashion, wellness, and music are central to Miami’s cultural identity and core to The Shelborne’s point of view. Job Summary: The Director of Nightlife, Culture & Community is the social engine of The Shelborne. This role is not theoretical, desk-based, or purely strategic. It is a highly visible, on-property leadership position responsible for drawing people in, hosting the room, and establishing The Shelborne as a nightly cultural hub within Miami Beach. This individual is expected to be the reason people show up. Through presence, relationships, taste, and cultural credibility, they will connect nightlife, membership, art, fashion, and wellness into a cohesive social ecosystem — both during major citywide moments and through consistent weekly programming. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: On-Property Presence & Hosting (Non-Negotiable) • Maintain a consistent, visible presence on property during evening and nighttime hours, including peak nights, weekends, and major cultural moments • Actively host and animate the venues: greeting guests, working the room, making introductions, connecting tables, and setting the social tone • Serve as the human bridge between locals, hotel guests, members, artists, designers, wellness leaders, and talent • Personally attract a core group of Miami locals, creatives, tastemakers, and members who regularly come because you are there • Take direct ownership of nightly energy, crowd quality, and social momentum — not just programming on paper Nightlife Programming & Curation • Develop and execute a clear nightlife vision for the Lobby Bar and Little Torch, with distinct identities, rhythms, and audiences • Work with Events Manager to build a compelling weekly calendar that drives repeat local traffic alongside hotel guest and member engagement • Liaise with Property Events team and Corporate Head of Experience to curate DJs, musicians, performers, and cultural talent with strong Miami relevance and high taste level • Create signature nights, residencies, and recurring programs that become synonymous with The Shelborne • Program both anchor nights and flexible moments that respond in real time to what is happening in the city Membership Integration • Work closely with the Membership team to ensure nightlife and cultural programming directly enhances member value • Create member-forward experiences including previews, private events, priority access, and curated gatherings • Help position The Shelborne as a social home base for members, not just an amenity Community Building & Cultural Credibility • Build and sustain deep relationships with Miami-based artists, DJs, musicians, designers, wellness leaders, creatives, and hospitality leaders • Establish The Shelborne as a true neighborhood and cultural gathering place — not just a hotel bar • Act as the public face of nightlife, culture, and community for the property, on-site and off-site • Cultivate a loyal base of regulars who return weekly and bring others with them Partnerships, Activations & Brand Alignment • Support partnerships with brands, artists, fashion labels, wellness partners, galleries, and spirits companies • Lead co-branded events, takeovers, and activations that enhance cultural credibility and drive traffic • Collaborate with local events team and corporate experience team on execution and inviting during citywide moments such as Art Basel, Miami Music Week, Fashion Week, and wellness festivals Operations & Performance Ownership • Work closely with leadership to monitor revenue numbers, cover counts, average check and deploy strategies to show continued top line improvement • Be accountable for attendance, bar performance, repeat visitation, and member engagement in our bars and restaurants • Monitor guest experience in real time and adjust programming, pacing, and energy as needed • Manage entertaining budgets, comps and DJ/talent spend Marketing & Visibility (Supportive, Not Leading) • Partner with Marketing to ensure nightlife and cultural programming is clearly communicated and socially visible • Contribute to content direction through real-time moments, talent, art, fashion, wellness, and crowd energy • Maintain strong relationships with local media, cultural publications, and tastemakers Required Qualifications: Experience • 7–10+ years in nightlife, hospitality, entertainment, cultural, or community programming • Proven history of personally drawing crowds and building social momentum • Experience launching, running, or revitalizing nightlife venues, lounges, or cultural spaces • Demonstrated success building loyal local and member audiences • Budget, vendor, and talent management experience Profile & Attributes • Deep, authentic integration into Miami Beach’s nightlife, art, fashion, and wellness ecosystems • Known locally as a connector, host, tastemaker, or cultural operator • High social stamina and comfort being the center of gravity in a room • Exceptional taste and instinct for reading and shaping energy in real time • Entrepreneurial, decisive, and execution-oriented • Comfortable working late nights, weekends, and non-traditional hours as a core expectation Knowledge & Skill Set: • Strong understanding of DJ culture, live music, and nightlife dynamics • Working knowledge of Miami Beach liquor licensing, permitting, and nightlife regulations • Solid grasp of food & beverage economics and bar performance drivers • Cultural fluency across music, art, fashion, wellness, and social trends relevant to Mia Compensation & Opportunity: • Competitive salary aligned with experience and cultural credibility • Full benefits package • Significant creative freedom paired with real accountability • Opportunity to define the nightlife, cultural, and community identity of an iconic South Beach property Why Join Proper Hospitality At Proper, we build experiences that move people —
