We are seeking dynamic adjunct instructors to provide integrated ESL (English Language Learning - ELL) and/or ABE (Transitional Studies - TS) instruction in our I-BEST courses. ABOUT THE COLLEGE: Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Position ResponsibilitiesProvide instruction in specific reading, writing, math, and speaking and listening contextualized around specific career areas. Collaborate with professional/technical instructors, division chairs, departmental coordinators in TS and/or ELL and/or other content area experts to deliver content-based curriculum that matches the goals and objectives of the particular project. Maintain regular communication with the team teacher to develop content-specific curriculum. Be responsible in meeting federal, state, and college reporting and testing deadlines. Use a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of the learners. Select and use a variety of resources to facilitate learning including Canvas. Administer CASAS test appraisals and pre/post assessments. Other duties as assigned. QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in education or other closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and teaching experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Adult Education, ELL, or other closely related field Experience teaching pre-college-level students; Experience teaching immigrants and refugees; Experience teaching integrated content-based basic skills; Experience with team-teaching. Health Benefits:Adjunct faculty may become eligible for benefits if they work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Newly-hired adjunct faculty are eligible for PEBB insurance benefits when they have taught 50 percent or more of a full-time workloadfor two consecutive quarters at one or more public higher education institutions, going on benefits the start of the second quarter at 50% or more. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the Adjunct faculty who initially meet the State Board Retirement Plan Eligibility criteria after June 30, 2011 are given the option to participate in the State Board Plan (TIAA-CREF) or to participate in TRS 3, and have 30 days to make a choice. The eligibility threshold for participation in the State Board Retirement Plan (TIAA-CREF) is 50 percent of a full-time workloadat one or more college districts or the State Board for two consecutive quarters. There may be other options available under limited circumstances. Leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract. Half time is defined as one-half of the full-time academic workload as determined by each institution, except that half time for community and technical colleges faculty employees is governed by RCW 28B.50.489.
