Job Description

Purpose The purpose of the Maintenance Technician role is to ensure the integrity and functionality of extrusion process lines, industrial machinery, and automated assembly equipment, maintaining their safe and efficient operation through timely repairs, troubleshooting, and proactive maintenance. Essential Functions Repair and replace recycling and extrusion process line equipment as needed to ensure safe and efficient operation. Prioritize breakdowns based on input from production. Troubleshoot equipment problems in coordination with production personnel. Ensure work orders are completed in a timely manner and all parts used are accounted for. Diagnose and repair equipment in a timely manner, escalating to the Maintenance Manager when repairs exceed the allotted time. Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines. Thoroughly clean machines and machine parts, removing and reinstalling parts as necessary. Oil and lubricate moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance. Record and report damage, worn, or broken parts. Identify the causes of unexpected machine breakdowns. Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies. Coordinate with managers to schedule regular machine maintenance. Collaborate with the production manager or plant engineer regarding new products and required modifications. Make necessary modifications, conduct test runs, and confer with the production manager regarding test results, implementing additional alterations as needed. Safe handling of chemicals related to the maintenance of equipment throughout the plant. This includes oil, grease, coolant, cleaners, and any other chemicals regularly required for the operation of equipment. All other duties as assigned. All other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities 1. Not Applicable Minimum Qualifications/ Education / Experience / Certifications 1. Education: a. High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate). b. Some vocational or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience preferred. 2. Experience: a. 3-5 years of relevant work experience in similar title and scope of responsibility preferred. b. 3-5 years of experience in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment with a track record of improvements. c. 1-2 years of experience operating forklifts and man-lifts. d. Basic computer skills, familiarity with email platforms, and the ability to compose, send, and manage messages effectively. 3. Licences / Certifications: a. N/A 4. Language: a. Proficiency in English required b. Bi-Lingual - Spanish is a plus Electrical Fundamentals Basic Principles Ohm's Law (V = I x R) and Power Law (P = V x I). Series & parallel circuits, Kirchhoff's Laws. AC & DC Circuits DC: batteries, controls, electronics. AC: motors, transformers, industrial power. Key concepts: frequency, phase, RMS. Electronic Components Passive: resistors, capacitors, inductors. Active: diodes, transistors, relays. Protection: fuses, breakers. Digital & Control Electronics Logic gates, binary systems. PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), I/O signals. Sensors & transducers (photoelectric, proximity, limit switches, encoders). Analog Signals Continuous voltage/current. Signal conditioning, filtering, and amplification. Testing Tools Multimeter, clamp meter, oscilloscope, megohmmeter. Power supplies & signal generators. Electrical Drawings Schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic. Component symbols & troubleshooting. Mechanical Fundamentals Basic Physics Force, torque, power, energy. Friction, leverage, and mechanical advantage. Rotational motion, gears, pulleys, belts, and chains. Component Identification Bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, pumps, actuators, seals. Drive systems & load-handling components. System Operation Energy & motion transfer in machines. Alignment & balancing of rotating equipment. Power transmission methods. Tool Proficiency Hand tools & power tools. Safe use of equipment. Measuring Tools Calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, torque wrenches. Alignment lasers, levels, feeler gauges. Maintenance & Repair Assembly/disassembly, fastening techniques. Lubrication types & schedules. Preventive & predictive maintenance practices. Technical Drawings Reading blueprints, exploded views, and tolerances. Following assembly instructions. Pneumatic Systems Compressed air principles. Valves, regulators, cylinders, hoses, and fittings. Pneumatic circuits and safety precautions.
