Salary : $45,219.20 - $72,342.40 Annually Location : City of Safety Harbor, FL Job Type: Full-Time Department: Public Works Division: Wastewater Opening Date: 09/16/2025 Closing Date: 3/29/2026 11:59 PM Eastern FLSA: Non-Exempt General Description and Hiring Rate The hiring pay rate for this position is $21.74/hour. Under the general supervision of the Senior Lift Station Mechanic, or designee. Performs a wide range of manual labor and skilled work in the maintenance and repair in the operation, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the City's water and wastewater transmission systems in the Water/Wastewater Division of the Public Works Department. Responsible for equipment and supplies needed for daily operations and maintenance. Duties are performed with independence. This position requires the employee to be on-call for emergencies. Work is reviewed through observations and obtained results. Essential Job FunctionsESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Maintains the proper operation of all City lift stations; performs routine preventative maintenance to include temperature inspection, greasing, checking oil levels, cleaning and painting. Performs electrical and mechanical repair in the wastewater transmission system; checks wells and pumps; removes and repairs pumps, generators, and electrical equipment. Repairs and replaces panel boxes; performs routine preventative maintenance on the wastewater transmission system; performs repairs in connection with the repair or replacement of lines. Maintains daily readings record at City stations. Fixes stoppages in sewer lines. Performs grounds maintenance as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum QualificationsKNOWLEDGE. ABILITIES. AND SKILLS Knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the mechanical and electrical trade. Knowledge of electrical and mechanical repairs to various types of pumps, motors, and electro-mechanical equipment. Knowledge of electrical theory as it relates to mechanical parts and equipment. Knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of mechanical equipment, machinery and pumps. Knowledge and understanding of the wastewater collection system. Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment in operation and ability to detect flaws and defects in operation. Ability to read diagrams and charts accurately. Ability to maintain accurate records. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions of the trade. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to work to close tolerances. Ability to perform heavy maintenance and repair work. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions of the trade. Skill in the safe operation of a light to heavy motor vehicle. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school; or GED, one (1) year experience in the maintenance and repair of motors and equipment at the journeyman level in a water and/or wastewater transmission environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; Possession of a Level Three (3) Distribution System Operator's License, issued by the State of Florida required; Wastewater Collection System "C" Operator's License, issued by the State of Florida, or the ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire. Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License, with Tanker Endorsement. No Valid CDL with proper endorsement(s) - CDL Permit within six (6) months from date of hire, and valid CDL with proper endorsements within eighteen (18) months from date of hire. Employees without a valid CDL and appropriate endorsements on their date of hire will serve an extended probation until the valid CDL and endorsements are obtained, to include necessary training and classroom time and will not exceed eighteen (18) months from date of hire.
