As a Police Officer, you will not only enforce the law but also build positive relationships and contribute to the safety, security, and growth of our historic campus. Essential Duties & Responsibilities As a Wilberforce University Police Officer, you will: Enforce local, state, and federal laws, as well as University rules, regulations, and traffic/parking policies. Investigate criminal violations, traffic crashes, judicial violations, and citizen complaints; protect crime scenes and preserve evidence. Patrol the campus on foot and by vehicle to protect persons and property, provide escorts, manage traffic and parking, and respond to emergencies. Safely operate and maintain patrol vehicles, firearms, radios, and other departmental equipment. Prepare clear and professional reports, logs, and documentation. Positively interact with the campus community, enhancing relationships with students, faculty, staff, and local public safety agencies. Work overtime, special events, or be called in for emergencies as needed. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work effectively in a diverse academic and law enforcement environment. Strong judgment, decision-making, and communication skills (both written and verbal). Physically and mentally fit to perform law enforcement duties, including making arrests and safely managing resisting individuals. A willingness to work varied shifts, overtime, and respond to emergency call-ins. Must be prepared to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, as well as respond to high-stress emergency situations. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications/Requirements : High School diploma or equivalent. Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) certificate in good standing. Valid Ohio driver's license with fewer than six points. Preferred Qualifications: Prior law enforcement experience. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Experience with safety presentations, training, or community engagement.
