CNC Vertical Turning Lathe MachinistLocation: Berlin CT Shift: 2nd Shift (10% Differential) Pay Range: Machinist: $27.00 - $39.00/hr (based on experience) Machine Operator: $20.25 - $29.70/hr (based on experience) Company Overview Our client is a woman-owned manufacturer of complex machined components and sub-assemblies serving the aerospace and land turbine engine industries. Our client operates two distinct divisions: Overhaul & Repair - An FAA-regulated repair shop focused on restoring worn or defective aerospace components (no fabrication) Aerospace (OEM Machining) - Fabrication of aerospace components from raw materials This position may support either repair or fabrication, depending on experience and business need. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced CNC Vertical Turning Lathe Machinist with strong setup and operation experience on Okuma machines. This role requires hands-on expertise with 3-5 axis turning, full machine setups, and tight-tolerance aerospace components. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Perform full machine setups and operate CNC Vertical Turning Lathes Run trial parts to verify machine setup, tooling, and program accuracy Read and interpret blueprints, travelers, operation sheets, and specifications Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, and materials Verify part conformance using precision measuring and inspection tools Ensure proper operation of CNC/DNC programs and adjust controls as needed Troubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with engineering and programming teams Maintain accountability by properly completing travelers and shop floor documentation Handle components with care to prevent damage Perform preventative maintenance on machines Follow all safety requirements and maintain good housekeeping practices Required Qualifications (Must Haves) 5+ years of CNC Vertical Turning Lathe experienceExtensive experience with Okuma CNC machinesExperience with 3-5 axis turning machinesFull machine setup experience Aerospace machining background Ability to work independently and hold tight tolerances Education & Experience Minimum 3+ years CNC setup and operation experience in an aerospace environment High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred Skills Experience machining complex aerospace components, including turbine engine parts Background in overhaul and repair work (FAA-regulated environments) Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Frequent use of hands for handling tools and components Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching Lift or move up to 50 lbs with assistance or hoist Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception Interview Process On-site interview and facility tour with management Candidate will be shown an overhaul part and asked to describe how they would repair it Pre-Employment Requirements Drug & alcohol screening Background check
