Job Title: Safety Supervisor Location: Gainesville, GA Department: Safety Reports To: Safety Manager Normal Work Schedule: The typical working hours are 8:00 am to 5 pm, with a 60-minutelunch. The company employs over 2,000 individuals and has three manufacturing facilities in Gainesville, Georgia; Valley, Alabama; and its headquarters in Tyler, Texas. Job Summary The Safety Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment and preventing workplace injuries, accidents, and occupational illnesses at the facility. This role supports compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, and internal safety regulations and oversees site-level Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements. The Safety Supervisor coordinates safety training for new hires, maintenance personnel, and existing employees; supports Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) initiatives; and provides in-field safety guidance. This position also leads incident and near-miss investigations, supports emergency response planning, and serves as a key liaison during audits, drills, and government inspections. The role includes supervisory responsibility and requires strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications(Required) The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong leadership and supervisory skills, including the ability to manage individual and team performance effectively. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to clearly convey safety expectations, training content, and regulatory requirements to employees at all levels of the organization. The candidate must possess strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to investigate incidents, identify root causes, analyze safety data, and implement corrective and preventive actions. Proficiency in conflict resolution and team-building is essential to foster a positive safety culture and promote employee engagement. A working knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, and industrial safety practices is required, along with the ability to maintain accurate and compliant documentation. The role also requires proficiency in computer systems and relevant software for reporting, tracking, and trending safety data. Preferred Qualifications A Bachelor's degree is preferred, along with prior experience supporting PSM and RMP programs in a manufacturing environment. Experience within a food manufacturing or similar regulated environment is strongly preferred. Candidates with demonstrated experience facilitating safety training, supporting emergency response drills, and participating in regulatory audits and inspections will be highly regarded. Proficiency in desktop computer skills is highly preferred. This includes expertise in: Spreadsheets: creating and editing worksheets, charts, and graphs; Internet navigation: conducting online research and managing email; Navigation: using operating systems and switching between applications; Word processing: typing, formatting, editing, and saving documents; Graphics: creating and editing visuals and inserting them into documents; Databases: managing, editing, and reporting on large data sets. Education & Experience High school diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred. Three to five years of experience in safety, PSM, EH&S, or a related field is required. One to two years of experience in a food manufacturing or similar industrial environment is preferred. Key Responsibilities The Safety Supervisor ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, and internal health and safety programs and policies. This role assists with and facilitates health and safety drills, including fire and evacuation exercises, extreme weather response, hazardous materials (HazMat) scenarios, and coordination drills with the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and local fire departments. The position coordinates and facilitates communication in accordance with Good Handling Practices (GHP), including employee training, proper labeling, and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS). The Safety Supervisor supports EH&S initiatives as directed by the EH&S Manager and site leadership and provides hands-on safety support within the facility. Responsibilities also include supporting incident and near-miss management through employee care and follow-up, conducting investigations, and tracking and trending EH&S events. The Safety Supervisor delivers hazard awareness training, provides in-field safety guidance, and supports corrective action implementation. This role maintains compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements and ensures that all related documentation remains accurate and current. This includes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), employee training records, ammonia inventory documentation, and Management of Change (MOC) records. The Safety Supervisor participates in regulatory audits and hazard analyses, including three-year compliance audits and five-year Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), and maintains tracking tools for audit and PHA recommendations. The role also collaborates with internal teams and external agencies during government inspections related to PSM and RMP compliance. Additional responsibilities include investigating industrial accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses to determine root causes and preventive measures, staying current on applicable regulations and safety practices, and compiling and analyzing safety data to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing plant setting and involves regular exposure to a cold, fast-paced production environment. The Safety Supervisor must be comfortable working around industrial equipment and in areas requiring strict adherence to safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards. The role requires frequent movement throughout the facility to conduct inspections, observations, and employee engagement activities, as well as occasional office-based administrative work. Flexibility to support weekend coverage as needed is required. Physical Demands The position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to move throughout the facility as needed. Occasional sitting and computer-based work is required. The role includes the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and to work in cold production areas. The Safety Supervisor must be capable of responding to incidents and emergencies and performing job duties in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
