Associate Professor Adult Reconstruction/Hip Preservation Orthopedic Surgeon Clinician ScientistDescriptionUniversity of Colorado Anschutz Medical CampusDepartment: OrthopedicsJob Title: Associate Professor - Adult Reconstruction/Hip Preservation Orthopedic Surgeon - Clinician ScientistPosition #00845088 - Requisition #38935Job Summary:Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care Deliver integrated care across the hip disease spectrum, including evaluation and management of early, intermediate, and advanced disease; perform hip arthroscopy, periacetabular osteotomy, femoral osteotomies, complex deformity correction, primary and revision total hip arthroplasty, and conversions after prior preservation procedures, with attention to patient selection and long-term outcomes. Employ contemporary imaging, navigation, and related technology as appropriate to support precision surgery in both preservation and arthroplasty; contribute to early evaluation and adoption of navigation for periacetabular osteotomy as feasible within institutional parameters. Partner with clinic and operating room teams to ensure efficient workflows, safety, and high patient satisfaction; participate in inpatient consults, perioperative management, and emergency coverage as needed. Provide pre-op, intra-op and post-op care; write appropriate orders, including those for narcotics and other scheduled drugs. Duties include inpatient care, consultation and coverage in the emergency room. Adhere to safety, environmental, and/or infection control protocols. Write progress notes on patients' office and hospital charts in a timely fashion indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed; maintain other records as required. Contribute to development and use of a longitudinal outcomes registry that captures clinical data and patient reported outcomes across preservation and arthroplasty populations to inform clinical decision making, quality improvement, and research. Education Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in clinics, the operating room, and academic conferences; contribute to curriculum, journal clubs, and didactics. Provide leadership in hip focused education, with opportunities to help develop a hip preservation fellowship in alignment with institutional priorities, clinical volume, and accreditation considerations. Develop and share written educational materials and perioperative protocols that enhance consistency and safety of care; present at institutional, regional, and national meetings as appropriate. Research Build and sustain a federally-funded translational program focused on mechanisms of early hip osteoarthritis, including metabolic and epigenetic regulation, and link biological insights with clinical phenotypes and outcomes; pursue extramural funding that supports scalable science and team-based scholarship. Integrate human centered data and specimen collection with preclinical models where appropriate; collaborate across orthopedics, engineering, and related disciplines to accelerate impactful discovery. Produce high impact peer reviewed publications and presentations; mentor trainees in research methods, rigor, and dissemination. Program Building and Collaboration Align clinical growth, registry development, and research milestones with departmental strategy; contribute to transparent phase based planning and clear performance metrics. Engage with internal and external collaborators, including established international partners, to advance education, research, and clinical innovation that strengthens the institutional profile in hip disease.
