Position Summary The psychiatric nurse practitioner provides evaluations, reassessments, treatment recommendations, and formal/informal in-services in the context of the consultation process. Essential Job Functions: Provide psychiatric assessment of nursing home Members as requested by the attending physician, including but not limited to determinations concerning the mental health status of Members and their proper disposition. Include in the assessment a review of the Member's record, discussion with the nursing home staff and interview of the Member or family or both as indicated. Make recommendations for treatment to the attending physician. Make recommendations for individual psychotherapy by the psychologist. Be available for family and/or team conferences during the scheduled hours on site at the nursing home. Document information pertaining to the evaluation and ongoing assessments in the Member's record. Provide education to staff regarding behavioral management and psychotropic medication use. Collaborate with the consulting psychiatrist at the home. Coordinate changes with the nursing home staff to accommodate for vacations and possible illness. Be available for telephone consultation. In an emergency, the psychiatrist or covering psychiatrist, in consultation with psychiatric nurse practitioner, shall be available by telephone with the responsible physician outside of usual contact hours. The psychiatric nurse practitioner will provide supportive documentation for the billable component of services provided to The Friendly Home, allowing them to bill insurances for their services. Participates in in-service education, department meetings, and safety programs. Performs other duties as required by management or by Administration from time to time within Federal and State regulations. Expectations of the Position: Dependable, report to work on-time for every schedule shift (ready to work at beginning - start of shift) and work full schedule shifts unless physically unable or pre-approved Paid Time Off (PTO) which includes personal and vacation. Willing and able to work overtime and weekends as required by the position and/or approved by management. Have reliable transportation to and from work. Must be clean and neat in appearance and have a "friendly" service-oriented personality. Abide by work-related / job procedures and organization policies; (refer to the Employee Handbook). Qualifications of the Position: Education: Graduation from an approved school of nursing; current New York State Registration and License; Master's Degree; ANA Certified Nurse Practitioner preferred. Ability to meet the public and participate in professional programs. Experience: Past experience as a Nurse Practitioner in psychiatry. Skills: Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Licenses / Certifications: New York State Registration and License; Master's Degree; ANA Certified Nurse Practitioner preferred. Conditions of Employment: Work is performed in a clean, well lit, "Home-Like," nursing Home setting. Employee must be able to perform essential job functions (reasonable accommodation may apply). Physical Requirements Refer to Physical Requirements form. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by Friendly Home. May be requested to assist in the evacuation of Members or perform other procedures to protect the safety of Members, visitors and team members during emergency situations.
