Minimum Qualifications: Is a graduate from an accredited RN training program; BSN or MSN preferred. Has a minimum of three years nursing experience in a skilled nursing care facility; previous nursing management experience required. Possesses a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in the State of Ohio. Is knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care. Is able to read, write, and communicate effectively the English language. Is able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Has a passion for serving older adults. Is able and willing to work independently with flexibility and integrity, as well as effectively and harmoniously with team members, residents, family members, support agencies, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Possesses leadership and supervisory ability and is able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Has patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents. Is able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the Community. Assists in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations. Must be fully up-to-date with required vaccinations. As a Director of Nursing you can expect to: Plans, organizes, evaluates, and directs the nursing services department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern long-term care and residential care. Develops and maintains a quality work team. Responsible for proper hiring, orientation, training, supervision, clinical competency, coaching, counseling and performance appraisals with team members and ensuring those are maintained in a manner supportive of team and professional standards of practice. Oversees Nursing, as well as related positions including MDS, Medical Records, Medication Aides, and others as assigned. Manages contracted relationships with third party providers including but not limited to Resident Assistant services, nutritionist, therapy team, and medical director. Guides the development, implementation, and review of clinical policies and procedures to ensure safe, sanitary, and efficient practices that support professional nursing care standards and ensures that documentation, medication administration, nursing care, safety and sanitation, team member and talent development, materials management, Performance Improvement Plans and resident rights comply with federal, state, local and ERS standards. Ensures that all clinical policies and procedures are maintained. Interprets and communicates the clinical policies and procedures to all of those needed, with an emphasis on resident, family, or designated representative relationships. Creates a culture of continuous quality improvement and learning. Develops, implements, and maintains an ongoing Process Improvement Plan for the nursing services department. Reviews, monitors, and tracks resident clinical outcomes, infection control data, and quality indicators. Ensures appropriate staffing patterns and oversees scheduling to maintain safe staffing levels in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Makes rounds to ensure that care is provided in accordance with acceptable nursing standards, policies, and procedures. Documents in the EMR any clinical care or communication with practitioners, residents or family members, according to community policy. Assists nursing team members with direct personal care and carrying out physician orders when needed. Works cooperatively with the Medical Director(s), Pharmacy, Consultants, and other departments to ensure comprehensive delivery of care and services to residents. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department. Manages and documents personnel matters within the assigned departments, promoting timely investigation, follow up, and coaching/counseling when warranted. Conducts nursing management and department meetings to receive and distribute information and education. Participates in the pre-admission assessment of residents, assessing their appropriateness for placement within the Community. In partnership with Administrator, leads community inspections/surveys made by authorized agencies; develops, implements, and follows through on plans of correction for any deficiencies which may be noted during such inspections and provides a written copy to the Administrator. Reports and assists in the investigation of any abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property as evidenced by documentation. Reviews complaints and grievances made by a resident and makes a written/oral report indicating the actions taken to resolve the issues. Assists in the development of the department budget; organizes and implements procedures to maintain compliance within budget. Reviews invoices within acceptable timeframes. Works with the household clinical staff to ensure efficient and effective use of all resources to keep clinical staffing and supply budgets within planned expenditures. Completes root causes analyses of critical incidents and ensures timely submission to critical incidents to applicable parties when appropriate. Works cooperatively with the Community Marketing and Admissions team members to ensure compliance with admission procedures and objectives. Partners with Administrator and Admissions Director to build and leverage partnerships with hospitals and ACOs. Models and ensures that others provide medical treatment that honors resident preferences and individuality. Demonstrates a strong commitment to the highest clinical outcomes. Ensures that the appropriate external health agencies are notified when necessary regarding infections or similar items. Ensures that community Infection Control policies/procedures are adhered to by all personnel according to federal, state and local agencies. Participates in Manager on Duty rotation. Actively leads and participates in interdisciplinary care conferences, ensuring resident, family, and team member engagement in care planning. Facilitates open communication to support person-centered goals, identify changes in condition early, and promote timely updates to care plans. Provides direct clinical oversight for all Residential Care Facility (RCF) operations, ensuring compliance with RCF regulations and best practices. Oversees the Life Steps process, including assessment, documentation, communication, and monitoring to support safe transitions, maximize resident independence, and maintain regulatory alignment.
