POSITION TITLE: Teacher, Drama (Technical Theatre) RESPONSIBLE TO: High School Principal JOB CLASSIFICATION: Certified 189 Day FLSA Status: Exempt QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Hold, or be eligible to hold, a Georgia teaching certificate in Drama (P-12) or English (6-12), preferably Drama (P-12) - Required Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Technical Production, or a related field- Preferred Advanced degree - Preferred Gifted and/or ESOL endorsement - Preferred Experience: Minimum 3 years of successful teaching - Required 3-5 years of experience in a leadership technical role (Technical Director, Master Carpenter, or Production Manager) for educational or professional theatre- Preferred Experience at the high school level - Preferred JOB SUMMARY: To provide Technical Theatre instruction for students and to present performances as part of that instruction. Assists with the supervision of and coordinates Technical Theatre activities; supports each theatre participant in achieving a higher level of personal skill, fosters an enhanced appreciation for theatre, and increases student capability through rehearsals and performances. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance Facilitates instructional delivery of the MCS District Drama and Technical Theatre curriculum, specializing in scenic design, stagecraft, and production technology. Coordinates and manages technical aspects of staging, scenery, lighting, sound, carpentry, Assists with leadership of production's technical direction, stage management, and crew Demonstrates proficiency in stationary and pneumatic shop power tools, expertise in stage electrics and intelligent fixture integration, as well as production stage management Instructs all students at their level and to ensure each student's progress by as much individualization as possible. Spends time beyond the hours required of non-supplemented teachers in instructional (including performance) activities with theatre students or in county-wide meetings and events. Encourages and assists worthy students in preparation for auditions such as GHP, All State Theatre, Georgia Thespian Conference, theatre scholarships, etc. Assists in recruiting an adequate number of new students in Technical Theatre courses to ensure the theatre program's existence and to make continued improvement possible. Mentor student designers and crew heads through the full production cycle, from initial concept to strike. Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students Plans and uses appropriate instructional learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Assists in the responsibilities of paperwork such as inventory, purchase orders, report cards, attendance, building requests, field trip requests, calendar requests, publicity; responsible for the completion and accuracy of paperwork Assist in planning and accompanies the theatre department on trips for performances; accompanies and assists in the responsibilities for the theatre's performance at approved civic functions. Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Exhibit knowledge in subject area and ability to present accurate information Exhibit ability to collaborate with staff in an extremely active performing arts environment is essential Demonstrate ability to communicate responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership Demonstrate excellent communication skills both orally and in writing Demonstrate professional ethics in all work-related activities Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members Demonstrate effective classroom management skills Demonstrate excellent organizational skills Demonstrate ability to maintain emotional control under stress The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
