Lecturer, Film & Media ArtsDepartment: Film Location: Metropolitan Campus Reports To: Assoc Dean, Creative Arts Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req6792 Employment Type: Full-Time Faculty Union Position: Non-Union Work Schedule: Classes as assigned, standard office hours, other hours as necessary Number of Openings: 1 Job Description: Teaches the Film and Media Arts sequence courses Prepares and delivers lectures and hand-on studio instruction to students on various topics in relation to a specific discipline Evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory/studio work, assignments, papers, and films Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts May be assigned to teach courses on campus or at partner high schools, conduct adjunct instrucr or observations, and contribute to program development Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, speaking with colleagues, participating in professional conferences, productions, and film-related activities, and learning new equipment, tools and technologies, workflow, and software as appropriate to the field of study Maintains student attendance records, grades and other required records Initiates, facilitates and moderates classroom discussions and hands-on training As needed, advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues Plans, evaluates and revises curricula, course content and course materials and methods of instruction Compiles, administers and grades examinations Collaborates with colleagues to address teaching and research issues Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students Selects and obtains materials and supplies such as textbooks and laboratory/studio equipment May serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional polices, department matters and academic issues May participate in campus and community events Required Master's Degree in a Film and Media Arts-related field 5 years of recent professional experience in a preproduction/post-production filmmaking and/or media arts capacity with a strong diverse portfolio representing a professional level of media production and/or post production for purposes ranging between entertainment, business, documentary, training/tutorial marketing, multi-media installation, live or virtual platforms or events Demonstrated experience and familiarity with a range of aspects of Film and Media Arts, including but not limited to producing, planning, scheduling, scouting, camera operation/cinematography, lighting/grip/gaffer, sound recording and design, supervising or executing associated motion graphics, animation, and delivery formats. Demonstrated proficiency in editing, post-production workflow, and media-management Demonstrated experience in writing/scripting for Film and Media Arts Familiarity with contemporary and emerging production environments, set operations and set etiquette Interest and knowledge in continued study of emerging tools and technologies. Advanced-level expertise in one or more of the above-mentioned aspects of Film and Media Arts Teaching experience Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for students Advanced communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills Logic and reasoning skills to identify solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population Preferred College-level teaching experience in a production based technical area of Film and Media Arts Affiliation with related professional organizations Proficient in the use of Discipline-specific hardward, software, studio operations, tools, and technologies Experience with editing visual effects and compositing, motion graphics or animation or high level experience in Film production with specialization in filmmaking tools and technologies Work samples Experience in working on a variety of locations, including but not limited to studios, sounds stages, VR studios, site-specific live events or on-location filming for scripted or unscripted productions Demonstrated advanced-level production experience with film tools and technologies including on-set work experience involving rigging, studio design and set-up, lighting and camera department, sound department or other production-based area of in Film and Media Arts This Lectureship is for one Academic Year, classes beginningin Fall 2026. Ability to work a combination of days/evenings/weekends isrequired. Assignments may include working at multiple sites/campuses.
