The resulting list of eligibles will be used to fill this MVA position or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.The Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) is seeking a dynamic, progressive candidate with a focus on delivering customer service for the position of Skilled Trade Specialist I.The Skilled Trade Specialist I is responsible for the effective completion of day-to-day work assignments and ensuring that MVA buildings statewide are maintained. Maintenance would include work on Electrical, HVAC, Carpentry, and plumbing systems with the purpose of keeping them safe and in proper working condition according to the codes and regulations governing such systems.Responsibilities include: Installing pictures, bulletin boards, dry erase boards, tv’s, plaques, clocks, shelves, banners, signs, and cabinets Moving desks, file cabinets, modular furniture, installing doors, making copies of keys, replacing ceiling tiles, installing dropped ceilings, repairing cabinets, hardware, setting up tables and chairs for special events Cleaning sidewalks and grounds, dump and remove trash and recycling inside and outside of the buildings Painting offices, stairways, floors, parking lines and installing and replacing floor tile Performing snow removal, repairing, and maintaining snow equipment. Documenting snow removal operations Installing door windows, door hardware, locks, drywall, studs, baseboards, floor tile, molding etc. Maintenance and care of tools and special equipment Replacing fluorescent, LED lights and emergency lights This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside an MDOT building. Employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds and may also be required to work on equipment located on high poles or other elevated locations, and/or perform their job in cramped quarters in buildings or underground.Employees are considered essential employees and are subject to emergency call back procedures, twenty-four hours a day, as may be required to maintain continuous operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.Vacancies currently exist at the Frederick Branch (Frederick County). You can learn about our amazing benefits here: MDOT Benefits Guide (QualificationsMinimum QualificationsEducation: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.Experience : Two (2) years of experience performing skilled trade work in one of the following areas: plumbing, carpentry, electrical, or HVAC.Notes: Additional work experience performing skilled trades as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. A certificate from a vocational technical school with a major in one or more of the skilled trades as defined above may be substituted for one year of the required general experience. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the skilled trades as defined above field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. Licenses & Certifications Candidates appointed to positions in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees are required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. All applicants must list their license number and expiration date on the application. During the probationary period, employees may be required to obtain and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland, depending on the type of equipment operated. Employees at the Maryland Aviation Administration must have or obtain an Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 11.03.01.04, Control of Vehicular Traffic on the Air Operations Area, prior to permanent appointment. The employing administration may require employees to satisfy its agency training and certification program requirements to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification. Applicants who are considered for work at the Maryland Aviation Administration are subject to an extensive pre-employment security background check as required by the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Aviation Regulation Part 107. Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required to maintain continuous operation of a facility and are subject to call-in. Employees are required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call back requirements. Employees that work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials, such as: asbestos, lead-based paint, or chromium, may be required to undergo periodic medical testing and may be required to pass hazardous materials training and can wear a respirator.
