Description POSTING NUMBER : N154-2526 POSTING DATE : October 17, 2025 CLOSING DATE : Until filled POSITION : HVAC Mechanic - Buildings & Grounds Department REPORTS TO : Mechanical Supervisor of the Buildings & Grounds Department PRIMARY FUNCTION : Responsible for the maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repairs of all HVAC mechanical systems in all of the Hartford Public school facilities. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Receive daily work orders from supervisor. Trouble shoot and repair the following equipment/devices: Air handling systems, duct work, thermostat control, pneumatic controls, and automated Building Systems (DDC) for all schools; steam piping, hot and cold-water piping, valves, controls, etc.; boiler and burner controls and repairs; chillers, chilled pumps, piping and controls; hot water pumps and controls; air compressors, air piping, refrigeration, dryers, etc. any other mechanical systems and control as may be required. Utilize Brightly work order system in order to record and muaintain log of repairs performed. Perform other related duties as required by supervisor. Work independently SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: High School or vocational school diploma or GED equivalency. Must possess a minimum of five (5) years of mechanical and HVAC and maintenance experience. Must possess two (2) years of HVAC construction and maintenance experience within a large plant, educational facilities preferred. Ability to read and understand blueprints and the ability to perform in the trade from sketches and blueprints. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety protection of the trade together with the specific requirements imposed upon workmen in the performance of work by the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Must possess general knowledge of hazardous materials such as asbestos (ACM) and/or but not limited to PCB's and lead. Knowledge and skill in the use of all power and hand tools commonly employed in the performance of the trade. Ability to layout work, plan the execution of work, and to estimate time and materials. Must have valid CT driver's license and willing to use own vehicle if requested (reimbursement available) Ability to trouble shoot and/or repair within the school plan any installation or structural portion of a building related to area assigned. Must be able to lift more than 40 lbs. Must be able to work at height greater than five feet and work from flat roof tops of schools. CERTIFICATION / LICENSE REQUIREMENTS : Must possess one or more of the following licenses as issued by the State of Connecticut, S-1, S-2, D-1 or D-2 EVALUATION : Every 30 working days until the end of the initial probationary period of 120 working days. Evaluated annually. SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Twelve-month work year; forty-hour work week. Monday through Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. May be required to work second shift hours of 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Salary Schedule 84, $64,952 - $70,152.
