Surgery Scheduling The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for the daily coordination of the physicians surgery schedule, surgery patients and the entire surgery process. This includes scheduling the pre-op visit, the surgery, pre-certification of insurance and making any financial arrangements with the patient to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care and service. The Surgery Scheduler is also responsible for gathering insurance authorizations and precertification for patients tests, procedures and other items that require a precertification. This position works closely with the physicians, hospital and outpatient surgery departments, and other members of the health care team. Strong customer service, organizational and communication skills are essential to this position. Operations Functions Meets with the patient that has been identified by a provider as one that needs surgery, always displaying superior customer service. Coordinates the surgery with the hospital or surgery center where the patient wishes to have the surgery. Gathers all pertinent patient information to pre-certify with the patients insurance company to ensure accurate and timely payment for services rendered. Makes any necessary financial arrangements for the surgery, including setting up payment plans. Assures that all necessary consent forms and verifies them for completeness and placement in the patients chart. Obtains precertification for procedures and tests. Maintains confidentiality at all times regarding identifiable health information Additional Responsibilities Other duties as assigned
