NORTHWEST INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTJob Title: Electrical Department Head (0395) Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Executive Director of Facilities Pay Grade: M35 Dept. /School: Facilities, Planning & Construction Duty Days: 261 Date Revised: 12/2025Primary Purpose: To supervise employees and maintain the physical structure of all school district facilities with as little interruption to the education process as possible. Qualifications: Education/Certification A Master's Electrician License is preferred, or equivalent. High school diploma or GED Valid Texas driver's license Demonstrated proficiency in leading, directing, and supervising employees Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to read blueprints Ability to estimate materials, supplies, and labor costs Ability to draw blueprints, manually and using Bluebeam. Ability to write specifications Ability to communicate effectively Preferred Experience: Five years' experience as a supervisor in school district support services Ten years' experience in trade Supervisory Duties: Daily management of Electrical Department Personnel Major Responsibilities & Duties: Demonstrate acceptable work habits including regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability, and promptness. Report to work on time each day. Assume primary responsibility for the safe condition of electrical, fire alarm, sound systems, and PA systems, in the facilities owned or operated by the district. Determine which repair jobs may be electricians, low voltage technicians or other tradesmen, on the staff and which must be performed by outside contracts and advise the Executive Director accordingly. Supervise all electrical, fire alarm, PA, and sound system repair work performed by district personnel. Supervise the installation of electrical wiring, lighting, fire alarm systems, PA and sound systems upon repairs and construction. Instruct maintenance workers on proper methods of procedure and proper use and care of hand tool, equipment, hardware, and materials. Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintain the inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and supplies. Estimate costs of electrical wiring, lighting, fire alarm systems, PA and sound system in terms of labor, material, and overhead. Examine district-owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventive maintenance. Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as needed basis.
