The City of Solon Recreation Department has part-time and seasonal openings for Lifeguards at the Solon Community Center. Part-time positions work up to 28 hours/week. This position offers a starting rate of $17.4084/hour. The first priority of a Lifeguard is to monitor the safety and well-being of patrons visiting the Solon Aquatic Facilities. They must be able to communicate directions, rules, regulations, etc. to patrons. In addition, the employee must maintain a safe environment by cleaning the pool area daily. Lifeguard employees need to have the ability to recognize and remove any safety hazards immediately and respond to emergencies appropriately. Candidates must be capable of performing First-Aid and CPR, along with having knowledge of our fire and tornado evacuation procedures. Additional duties include teaching patrons how to swim, learning basic water chemistry, and develop an understanding of pool maintenance equipment. Qualified applicants must be at least 15 years of age and possess or be able to obtain the following credentials: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and AED Certifications. Training will be offered for hired applicants. Applicants without a certification must receive their certification within 3 months of hire date. Those applicants under the age of 18 must provide a work permit, which may be obtained through your High School, at the time of hire. The successful applicant must be able to work and communicate (both written and verbally) well with adults and children. Lifeguards are needed to fill all shifts, plus attend any staff meetings.
