Salary: $56,212.00 - $86,677.00 Annually Location : Mechanicsville, VA Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 03843 Department: Generic Carpentry Secondary Opening Date: 01/05/2026 Closing Date: 6/30/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Description This posting is intended to generate a pool of qualified applicants who wish to be considered for vacancies as they develop for the 2026-2027 school yearGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide instruction for a two year industry based Carpentry course designed to provide students with the training, knowledge, and comprehensive understanding of (but not limited to) safety, use of hand and power tools, cutting stock, applying construction mathematics, and interpreting blueprints. The instructor will also lead students in rigging and job-estimating procedures, forming foundations, framing floors, walls, ceiling, roofs, trusses, roofing materials, stairs, exterior doors and windows, decks, and porches. Instructor will utilize NCCER curriculum and exams in order to provide students with the opportunity to complete their first year of post-secondary apprenticeship education, which also counts towards a state approved industry credential. In addition, all students will obtain the required OSHA 10 safety credential. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Demonstrates mastery of content area; Prepares daily instruction and activities using the division's curriculum to assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisors; Assesses students' learning on an ongoing basis and altars instruction to meet group/individual needs; Develops summative tests of students' learning and uses results for further student instruction, grading, and placement; Develops and maintains a favorable psychological and physical environment that is conducive to effective learning; Maintains order and encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding pupil behavior management. Selects and utilizes materials appropriate to the students' instructional levels; Organizes learning activities to achieve specific concepts; Attends and participates in district level in-service training programs, faculty and department meetings; Establishes friendly and cooperative relationships between the home and the school; Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with others; Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence; Respects the home responsibility of parents for their children; Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities; Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations; Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division's policies and practices. Qualifications: KSA's, EducationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of: current practices, techniques, and methods of teaching; the principles of educational testing and principles and methods of remedial education; effective means of supervision and instruction as applied to the work of Instructional Assistants; the needs and requirements of working with students with disabilities; the principles and methods of educational research. Ability to: apply modern methods and principles of education to pupils functioning at the elementary and/or secondary school level; maintain an interest in the positive improvement and development of children, adolescents, or adults of normal and/or impaired learning ability; maintain proper discipline; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students. Excellent written and oral communication skills. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: A Technical and Professional License from the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement in Carpentry or the willingness to seek and fulfill requirements to receive a Technical and Professional license with an endorsement in Carpentry from the Virginia Department of Education within a three (3) year period. SALARY SCALE: Teacher FLSA STATUS: Exempt Physical requirements and DisclaimerPHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, students and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to use and operate effectively various items of office related equipment. Work is typically performed in a school setting including; classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be required. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with students to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone, email, and in person as necessary.
