Position Summary: Performs diesel engine service and repair including preventive maintenance, removal, installation, disassemble, assemble, recondition, testing, adjusting, technical analysis, troubleshooting, diagnostics, failure analysis, and commissioning (optional). Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Disassembles, assembles, removes, and installs components on Diesel engines as directed by the Marine Technical Support Analyst Performs testing and adjustments on specific engine components as needed Appropriately prepares vessel and workplace to prevent cosmetic or other damage to vessel and the surrounding environment during the work process Remains in contact with Service Advisor and Field Service Supervisor during work process to apprise them of job progress Directs all customer technical, and other inquiries related to work being performed, to Marine Technical Support Analyst Completes, maintains and processes pertinent paperwork and records Processes repair parts cores in accordance with service department procedures Completes, maintains and processes pertinent paperwork and records in A/X Processes repair parts cores in accordance with service department procedures Customer Authorization Form on CAT Inspect app Diagnostics and troubleshooting Review application and installation requirements for Marine engines Failure analysis on Marine Engine components Startup and commissioning of Marine Engine systems Using the CAT Inspect app, properly use the Pantropic Power Contamination Control Inspection Form Using the CAT Inspect app, properly use the Pantropic Power Safety Inspection checklist V1.1 Using the CAT Inspect app, properly use the Pantropic Power Service Truck inspection: Safety and Maintenance Using the CAT Inspect app, properly use the Pantropic Power TA1 Marine Engine Inspection Form Using the CAT Inspect app, properly use the Pantropic Power Work Authorization V1.4 Foundational Skill Level (2&3) The individual will: Knowledge Discuss terminology, concepts, principles, issues, applications, and implications of changes to processes, policies, and procedures of the following: Air intake and exhaust systems Lubrication systems Cooling systems Fuel systems Engine electric systems Emissions systems Diesel engine rebuild Component reuse and salvage Basic Cat electric power Generator systems Generator system control Skills Perform the following diesel engine-related tasks: 2001 Explain the fundamental operating principles of diesel engines. 2002 Identify components, explain the purpose and describe the basic operation of the Lubrication System. 2003 Identify components, explain the purpose and describe the basic operation of the Cooling System. 2004 Identify components, explain the purpose and describe the basic operation of the Air Intake & Exhaust System. 2005 Identify components, explain the purpose and describe the basic operation of the Auxiliary raw water system HEX / Keel Cooled 2006 Identify components, explain the purpose and describe the basic operation of the Mechanical Unit Injector (MUI) fuel system. 2007 Identify components, explain the purpose and describe the basic operation of the Electronic Unit Injector (EUI) fuel system. 2008 Identify components, explain the purpose and describe the basic operation of the Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injector (HEUI) fuel system. 2009 Identify components, explain the purpose and describe the basic operation of the Common Rail Fuel System. 2010 Identify components, explain the purpose and describe the basic operation of a small engine Fuel System. 2011 Describe the general service procedures (preventive maintenance) of diesel engine systems. 2012 Perform general service procedures (preventive maintenance) on Diesel Engine systems. 2013 Describe the procedures for removing and reinstalling diesel engines and their components. 2014 Perform remove and install diesel engine and its components. 2015 Identify the steps in performing a TA1 Visual Walk-Around Inspection 2016 Demonstrate Use of S.I.S. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete or abstract variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists. Specialized skills: The Service Technician must be a Marine Specialist - 2 skill level or above, within the Pantropic Power Technician Skill Compensation Program (TSCP). Must be proficient with the disassembly, assembly, testing and adjusting of the Diesel engine models that the employee is working with. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, kneel, crawl, sit, and recline both prone and on their backs. The employee is regularly required to used hands to hold tools, objects, controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, push, pull, talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift, carry or move up to 50 lbs. The employee may occasionally be required to swim in deep water. Specific vision abilities that are required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee regularly will step from the ground to a floating vessel and must take necessary precautions to prevent tripping, slipping, falling or otherwise injuring themselves. The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high temperature areas, is exposed to airborne particles, fumes, and risk of burns. High sound levels are regularly present in the employees work environment, and adequate protective equipment must be used. An unstable surface during vessel movement is typical and the employee must take precautions to prevent from falling, slipping, or otherwise injuring themselves. The employee must use protective equipment to prevent possible drowning in case of falling in the water. The employee must be alert for unsafe conditions caused by workers of other vendors that may be on the vessel during the work process, and take necessary precautions to prevent injury from said conditions.
