JMT is currently ranked #50 on Engineering News-Record’s list of the Top 500 Design Firms.Position summary: Applies standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction and installation, upgrades, retrofits and quality assurance of proper methods and procedures for electrical components general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and local and national codes.Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.Currently we have an opportunity for an Electrical Field Services Inspector to join our team. The successful candidate will work on various projects for municipal, industrial, federal and private sector clients. The Candidate would coordinate daily field activities with our construction management team, the client’s inspection and engineering department as appropriate, other consulting firms, and contractors, for construction installations of facilities serving the water and waste water industry in the southeast region of Virginia. Construction will include low and medium voltage plant power distribution systems, motor control centers, VFD’s and Soft Starts, motors, PLC’s, instrumentation, and other related equipment for plant power and control systems. Project work will include working with design engineers and contractors for layout and selection of equipment based on specifications, field investigations, field engineering support during construction, inspections for compliance of National Electrical Code (NEC) and client specifications, equipment testing and commissioning, and develop project redline as-build conditions. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.Essential functions and responsibilities Perform constructability reviews of designsDemonstrate skills with thorough knowledge of procedures, practices, installation, and testing methods, as well as of the National Electrical CodeProvide assistance with field investigations for arc flash data collection and ground grid testingResearch electrical equipment standards and specifications, design equipment layout and coordination with process mechanical, produce circuit and panel schedules, conduct engine generator sizing using vendor softwarePerform electrical calculations including arc flash, short circuit, system coordination, voltage drop, equipment sizing, and research and design to the current National Electrical CodeCoordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and standardsAssign, schedule and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all phases of the projectWork on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issuesGathers and maintains record documentsMakes field notes and computationsInteract with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries Nonessential functions and responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned Required Skills Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screeningKnowledge of NEC requirements for industrial and commercial installationsKnowledge of NFPA 70ENEC knowledge shall include working clearances and access, and conduit and conductor sizingKnowledge of practical means and methods for electrical and instrumentation installation, testing, and commissioningAbility to review and respond to submittals and RFI’sAbility to understand Electrical, Instrumentation, and P&ID drawingsGood technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and contextuallyEffective oral and written communicationDemonstrated ability to efficiently use standard computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Bluebeam or PDF writer, and OutlookAdapt to and use company tools and systems in place to monitor project budget and scheduleTake ownership of assigned project work to see work product through to the end of delivery Required Experience High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)4+ years of Construction Inspection ExperienceClient requested certificationsStrong Computer proficiencyActive driver’s license Preferred Experience Associates or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil EngineeringSupervisory experience in construction management/inspection situationsAbility to act in an Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge role Working ConditionsWork is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed.
