Johnston County Public SchoolsJob Description FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Grounds Maintenance and Equipment Foreman Site: Facility Services Grade: 65 Term: 12 Months Qualifications: High school graduate with 5 years of experience in equipment operation and grounds maintenance; care of planting trees and shrubs; must possess a valid driver's license; self-motivated and strong leadership skills; must have the ability to think proactively, plan ahead and problem solve; assisting foreman with minimizing disruptions, errors, risks, and keeping projects on-task, within budget and on-time. Duties and Responsibilities: Is crew leader for grounds crew and large scale jobs. Can plan and prepare for building landscapes, walks, and the placement of trees and shrubs. Supervises equipment operators and grounds personnel in removal of trees, mowing grass, and other duties assigned. Ability to prepare requisitions for supplies, material, and equipment. Has knowledge of horticulture principles. Ability to adjust and make repairs to equipment as needed. Manages a single crew and tailor crew composition to optimize effectiveness and efficiency. Knowledge of safety hazards, rules, regulations, and implements safety precautions. Performs as grounds foreman in the foreman's absence. Maintains a clean work site, orderly and stocked equipment trailer. Assist with training and teaching team members to ensure proper procedures are followed and ensure quality of work is achieved. Assist foreman with forecasting equipment, labor and material needs to ensure efficient production when needed. Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continued quality improvement; supports and exhibits organization core values of caring; respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing diversity. Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned. Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform medium/ heavy lifting exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in outdoor environments, heat/ cold. Special Requirements: Must possess a valid driver's license.
