The Laboratory Animal Resource Center (LARC) contributes to and enhances the services and collaborative efforts of medical research at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine (IUSM). In addition to the provision of basic husbandry for a wide variety of laboratory animal species, the veterinary staff and other highly experienced laboratory animal professionals of the IU School of Medicine LARC provide training, supplies, and specialized service support for medical research. The field of laboratory animal science has evolved substantially over the past 2 decades. We understand how the laboratory environment can both positively and negatively affect the results of research projects, and we recognize that an educated and empowered animal care team can be effective in working as an unofficial but critical member of the research team utilizing animal models. The LARC staff has deep experience in laboratory animal care and has achieved various levels of certification in laboratory animal science. Job Summary The Animal Logistics Coordinator takes the lead to provide safe logistics and transportation of LARC animals on and around IU Indy campus for IUSM researchers and LARC staff with clear communications, timely logistics, and closely coordinated schedules (internal IU imports and exports). Duties also include the processes noted below. Department-Specific Responsibilities Prepares daily delivery schedule of animals to labs including assignment of transports to the transportation technician Coordinates and communicates with clarity and professionalism with LARC staff and Research staff on logistical services Ensures timely routine deliveries of supplies to LARC satellite facilities Ensures timely routine deliveries of Drug Distribution Center (DDC) orders to LARC and labs located at satellite facilities Monitors the LARC transportation email box for updates, questions, or problems Delivers scanners to the business office on scan days weekly Assists supervisor in maintaining, updating, and adhering to the LARC transportation policy and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as requirements change, minimizing deviations Trains any staff who may cross-train or assist with Animal Logistics Assists in finding process improvements and any associated cost savings related to efficiencies gained Participates in service request form design or development when needed Delivers supplies and staff to LARC facilities when needed Submits Purchase Order (PO) request monthly for Lewis Testing Services, who performs the yearly certification of all cage change stations and biosafety cabinets within LARC Assists / cross-trains with other procurement reps in the business office Assists with other duties as assigned including covering for peers or other staff if out of the office Assists in daily support of an assigned project under direct supervision, ensures that projects go smoothly, and meets deadlines Coordinates support for project management activities, resource allocation, and communication Develops a schedule designed to meet necessary deadlines and communicates with team members Monitors project progress and handles moderately complex issues that arise Ensures projects adhere to frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for each project Collaborates with cross functional teams with varying levels of seniority and experience to support various programs Performs a variety of administrative skills and prepares correspondence related to the project Maintains a detailed, organized file and records system Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. EDUCATION Required High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) WORK EXPERIENCE Required 2 years of relevant experience SKILLS Required Proficient communication skills Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This role requires the ability to move items weighing up to 30 pounds.
