The ideal candidate is self-motivated, enthusiastic about learning new skills, and has experience working with traffic cabinets and crosswalk infrastructure as well as street light repair and troubleshooting. The Electric Service Technician, under the immediate supervision of a Department Manager or Crew Leader, is responsible for a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the delivery of City services and maintenance of City buildings, roadways, grounds, and equipment. Requirements: Completion of secondary education (high school or GED) and must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 6 months of hire. CDL training is provided at the expense of the city. The City of Grove City is a Drug Free Workplace. All candidates who receive an offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for commonly used drugs, including marijuana. Must be available weekends, evenings, holidays, and for on-call hours. Has proven ability in oral and written communication. Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general. Can pass the City's Physical Fitness Exam, which will be administered on Saturday, March 7, 2026, between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm. Preferred IMSA certifications: Level 1 or 2 Traffic Signal Technician Level 1 or 2 Roadway Lighting Technician This role is part of the AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) Trade Union and participates in the OPERS pension system. These top candidates must take and pass the physical fitness test on Saturday, March 7, 2026, to move forward in the hiring process. Essential Functions of the Position The Service Technician shall have the following duties under their direct supervisor: Operation and maintenance of City owned equipment and vehicles; minor electrical work including street light repair, replacement and troubleshooting; traffic cabinet control; mowing; snow and ice removal; dig ditches or trenches; rough and finish carpentry work; minor concrete work; and completion of other related activities associated with the Department of Public Service. Provides support to other Service Department staff with miscellaneous tasks as assigned. Strictly adheres to department safety protocols including the use of a multi meter, insulated gloves, insulated tools and other appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); follows all policies regarding de-energizing, lock out tag out, and other safety related issues. Maintains contact with City personnel/departments, the general public, and various government agencies/officials in order to obtain or disseminate information related to the essential position functions. Maintains required licensures and certification, if any. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Obeys and promptly executes all orders of the Administrative Assistant. Working Conditions and Equipment Operated The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment; has exposure to vehicular traffic when working in the public right-of-way; works in the vicinity of floor or wall openings, elevated platforms, and/or runways; ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds; works on and around powered platforms and/or vehicle mounted platforms; is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas; exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, air contaminants, unclean or unsanitary conditions; works with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines (e.g., belts, reels, blades, pulleys, etc.); exposed to possible injury from explosions, electrical shocks, and/or falling from high places; has exposure to fire; has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; has exposure to shaking objects or surfaces; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 lbs. or less. Employee may be subject to irregular work hours and must be available 24/7 unless alternate arrangements have been approved by Supervisor, and exposed to .
