The Michigan Health Sciences Summer Institute (MHSSI) consists of two residential summer programs sponsored by the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) and Michigan Medicine Health Advancement: Undergraduate Research Academy (URA): Provides 20 undergraduate students and/or recent graduates with research experience alongside Michigan Medicine faculty. Career Development Academy (CDA): Provides 20 undergraduate students and/or recent graduates with an MCAT preparation course and resources to support their medical school application process. The Health Advancement MHSSI staff team is under the supervision and leadership of the Pre-Medical Pathways Program Manager and MHSSI Administrative Project Coordinator, with roles ranging from 10 to 40 hours per week. The team of nine includes the MHSSI Program Assistant, four Medical Student Tutors and four Community/Residential Advisors, two of whom also serve as Student Research Mentors. Hourly Wage $25 at 10 hours per week The employment details for MHSSI roles are as follows: MHSSI Program Assistant (1) 30 hours per week May 4 to July 29 (12 weeks) Medical Student Tutor (4) 10 hours per week May 27 to July 27 (8 weeks) Community Advisor (2) 40 hours per week May 11 to July 29 (11 weeks) Community Advisor and Student Research Mentor (2) 40 hours per week May 11 to July 29 (11 weeks) Responsibilities Collaborate with the Pre-Medical Pathways Program Manager and the MHSSI Administrative Project Coordinator to support the success of 2026 CDA/URA Summer Programming. Serve as an MCAT tutor and medical student mentor to a group of 5 pre-medical students in the Career Development Academy (CDA). Host tutoring sessions for up to 4 hours/week on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 2nd to July 23rd. Attend a brief, weekly check-in with the MHSSI Program Assistant to provide feedback on a group of 5 assigned pre-med students. Lead a tour of the University of Michigan Medical School campus for 40 CDA/URA students. Serve as panelists on a Medical Student Panel(s) to share insight on your journey as a medical student. Provide meaningful feedback to URA students on their research project progress, including poster and oral presentations at the URA Symposium on July 27th. Required Qualifications Current Medical Student at the University of Michigan Medical School Availability Must be available on or near the Ann Arbor campus from May 27?July 27 Work Schedule M-F 9-5p, with some weekend hours Work Locations Michigan Medicine Health Advancement, Ann Arbor, MI Modes of Work Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
