The Director serves as theschool'sprimary technology advisor, guiding strategy, strengthening cybersecurity practices, advancing data-informed decision-making, and ensuring reliable, secure, and innovative technology services that power theschool'seducation and research missions. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Lead theschool's IT strategy in alignment withthe school'smissionandstrategicpriorities. Serve as the principal technology advisor toschool leadership, providing guidance on digital strategy, risk, and emerging opportunities. Represent the School in university-wide IT governance and planning forumsandITfocusedhigher educationprofessionalorganizations. Identifyand lead modernization initiativesin partnership withUVAInformationTechnologyServices,InstitutionalResearch andAnalyticsand technology leaders acrossUVAtoenhance operational efficiency, service quality,data-informeddecision-makingand user experience. Technologyand Data Strategyand Execution Advance data and analytics capabilities to support reporting, planning, and decision-making. Partner closely withleadership,facultyandstaffto support evolving teaching, learning, and research technology needs. Guidethe responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. Maintainhigh standardsof service delivery, responsiveness, and customer engagement across theschool. DataSecurity Lead implementation of cybersecurityandresearchsecuritybest practices in partnership with University InformationTechnologyServicesandthe Office oftheVice PresidentforResearch. Ensure compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations, and data governance standards. Maintain and regularly test business continuity and disaster recovery plans forschool-managed IT systems. Promote security awareness and digital responsibility across theschoolcommunity. Team, Operations, and Financial Management Operate comfortably at both strategic and tactical levels, providing hands-on leadership when needed. Cultivate a highperforming,self-motivatedIT and Analytics team. Lead digital transformation and processimprovementinitiatives. Manage IT budgets and ensure responsible financial stewardship. MinimumQualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Tenor more years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, systems administration, data management, analytics, cybersecurity, or related technical domains. Three or more years of supervisory orteamleadexperience, including responsibility for staff development, performance management, and operational oversight. Demonstrated experience managing IT operations, enterprise systems, or technical services in a complex, distributed environment. Experience developing and implementing IT policies, standards, and procedures. Strong understanding of IT service delivery, system lifecycle management, and technology governance. Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, researchers, administrators, and central IT units. Excellent communication, organizational, andproblemsolvingskills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for nontechnical audiences. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, ora related field. Experience working inengineering, scienceor otherhigher educationresearch and educationfocusedIT environments. Experience leading IT modernization initiatives,change management,cloud migrations, or enterprise architecture planning. Familiarity with research computing, data governance, cybersecurity frameworks, and compliance requirements relevant to higher education. Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and technologyprocurement. Demonstratedsuccess implementing IT service management (ITSM) practices or frameworks (e.g., ITIL). Experience with data analytics platforms, reporting tools, or data integration technologies. Professional certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CISSP, CISM, AWS/Azure certifications, or similar credentials.
