Job DescriptionJob DescriptionEmbedded Systems Engineer (Electrical-Certified | OTA & GPS)Role SummaryWe are seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer with electrical certifications to design, code, and build embedded systems that support OTA updates, GPS functionality, and reliable field deployment. This role blends low-level embedded coding with hands-on electrical engineering to deliver secure, updatable, and location-aware products used in real-world environments.What You Will Deliver Embedded firmware that supports secure OTA updates and remote device managementReliable GPS integration for accurate positioning, timing, and trackingRobust, maintainable embedded code that performs under electrical and environmental constraints in an automotive or urban environmentElectrically compliant designs that meet certification and regulatory requirements Key Responsibilities Develop embedded firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers and embedded Linux systemsDesign, implement, and maintain OTA update mechanisms, including bootloaders and fail-safe recoveryIntegrate GPS modules and protocols (NMEA, GNSS) into embedded systemsInterface firmware with electrical components such as power systems, sensors, and communication modulesPerform hardware bring-up, debugging, and fault isolation using lab equipmentCollaborate with electrical and systems engineers to ensure reliable hardware–software integrationSupport certification, compliance testing, and production readiness Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fieldActive electrical certification (PE – Electrical, CEE, or equivalent)3+ years of embedded systems development experienceStrong embedded coding skills in C/C++Experience implementing OTA update strategies on resource-constrained devicesHands-on experience integrating GPS/GNSS hardware and softwareAbility to read and review electrical schematics and component datasheets Preferred Qualifications Experience with secure boot, firmware signing, and encrypted OTA updatesFamiliarity with RTOS or embedded LinuxExperience with cellular, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or LPWAN connectivityExperience or familiarity with CAN bus integration and communicationsKnowledge of EMC, power integrity, and regulatory complianceExperience supporting products deployed in the field at scale Tools and Technologies ARM Cortex-M or similar microcontrollersGPS/GNSS modules and positioning librariesOTA frameworks and bootloadersDebugging tools (JTAG, SWD, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes)Git or similar version control systems What Success Looks Like Devices update reliably in the field without manual interventionGPS data remains accurate and stable across operating conditionsEmbedded code remains readable, testable, and production-readyDevices implement debugging and performance monitoring supportProducts meet electrical certification and compliance standards Company DescriptionStarChase, LLC is a US-based, public safety technology company headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA.
