Discover more at Summary Supports the Engineering and Manufacturing teams in completing a Continuous Improvement (CI) project focused on operational efficiency, quality, and process enhancement. This internship provides hands-on experience with improvement methodologies such as 5S, process flow optimization, layout redesign, and scrap reduction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Partner with the department manager to identify and define a Continuous Improvement (CI) project objective. Conduct assessments of current processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement. Support implementation of CI initiatives such as 5S organization, workflow enhancement, or scrap reduction. Collect and analyze process data to support recommendations and project decisions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to test, implement, and validate process improvements. Document findings, progress, and outcomes of the project. Assist in developing visual management tools, standard work documents, or updated layouts. Uphold Positronic's standards of integrity, quality, and operational excellence. Identify hazards in the workplace and report them to management and/or the safety coordinator. Collaborate with the EHS department to meet local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including OSHA, NFPA, DNR, EPA, and Amphenol sustainability practices. Work with the Quality department to ensure compliance with AS9100 certification standards. Comply with all company policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. RequirementsEducation and Experience Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering. Physical Regular walking, standing, sitting, climbing, bending, and crouching. May lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Use of hand tools, technical equipment, and standard office technology. Internship Time This internship will take place in 2026 from May 18th to August 7th. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in a production and office environment with exposure to machinery, moderate noise, and standard shop materials. CompetenciesKnowledge Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles. Familiarity with manufacturing operations and production flow concepts. Knowledge of safety and quality standards in a production environment. Awareness of waste reduction and process efficiency techniques. Understanding of basic measurement, data collection, and analysis tools. Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in CAD modeling and technical drawing interpretation. Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-department collaboration. Attention to detail and commitment to precision in technical work. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Abilities Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and develop actionable solutions. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Ability to apply engineering and analytical thinking to real-world manufacturing challenges. Ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a continuous improvement mindset.
