We are seeking a Structural Engineer II to support large, complex, multi-year hydroelectric dam reconstruction and upgrade projects. This role sits within a major projects group focused on high-risk, high-value capital projects involving: Heavy structural steel Large reinforced concrete installations Work in and around water at active hydroelectric dam facilities Projects with significant federal regulatory oversight (FERC) The Structural Engineer II will supplement an existing project team, acting as a technical interface between engineering, construction management, and external contractors, ensuring quality, safety, and technical compliance throughout construction. Key Responsibilities Project & Field Support Serve as a technical interface between: Owner's project manager and construction manager External construction firm(s) on site External engineering design firm(s) providing detailed design and ongoing support Support technical issue resolution during construction, including: Reviewing field conditions and construction challenges Coordinating with design engineers on design clarifications and changes Ensuring work complies with design intent and project requirements Conduct regular site visits (weekly or bi-weekly during peak construction) to: Meet with construction management and field representatives Gather direct feedback from the field on issues encountered Observe structural work in progress and support quality oversight Engineering & Technical Duties Provide structural engineering support with a focus on: Heavy structural steel and large reinforced concrete components Dam and spillway structures and associated civil/structural works Perform technical review of: Design submittals, drawings, and specifications Contractor submittals, RFIs, and transmittals Interface with an external engineering firm responsible for detailed design and ongoing technical support, helping translate field conditions and needs into clear engineering actions. Project Management Support ssist the project manager and lead structural engineer with: Tracking and organizing technical documentation and communications Managing project submittals, transmittals, and regulatory filings Supporting planning and coordination for upcoming construction phases Help maintain clear, well-organized project records, especially for regulatory filings and FERC-related documentation. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural focus from an ABET-accredited program Experience: pproximately 5-7 years of relevant structural engineering experience Background in at least one of: Structural design (e.g., for a consulting/design firm) Structural support for construction or owner's project teams Strong experience with: Structural concrete (mass and reinforced concrete) Structural steel for heavy civil or infrastructure projects Licensing: PE not required, but considered a plus FE/EIT preferred, not mandatory Driving & Travel: Valid driver's license Reliable access to transportation for travel to/from project sites Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications Experience with hydroelectric facilities, dams, spillways, or "work in water" environments Familiarity with FERC or similar complex regulatory frameworks (not required, but a strong plus) Background with heavy civil/infrastructure such as bridges, large concrete structures, or similar high-value structural projects Prior experience working for: Owner organizations on major capital projects Structural design firms supporting large infrastructure Construction companies specializing in heavy civil, dams, bridges, or large concrete/steel structures Non-Technical Skills Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to interface effectively with: Construction managers Project managers External contractors and design engineers Team player with the ability to integrate into a multi-disciplinary project team Strong organizational skills to manage: Large volumes of technical documents and submittals Complex filing and regulatory documentation structures Self-management and initiative: ble to manage own schedule and workload with limited day-to-day direction Capable of prioritizing tasks in a dynamic, project-driven environment Tools & Software Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Experience working with SharePoint or similar document management / collaboration platforms bility to view and navigate CAD files (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD or similar): Full design proficiency not required Must be comfortable opening native CAD files and interpreting drawings for review/coordination purposes
