We are accepting applications for Patrol Officer positions within our uniformed patrol division. This recruitment is open to individuals with no prior law enforcement experience who are interested in beginning a meaningful career in policing. NOTE: We offer an accelerated hiring process for experienced law enforcement officers! Applicants currently serving in a similar capacity at another agency may apply by submitting a cover letter and resume directly to These Patrol Officer positions are part of Field Operations and involve duties such as preventative patrol, traffic enforcement, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, and handling criminal investigations. The department is a comprehensive, 24-hour police agency that embraces community-oriented policing and neighborhood problem-solving. Specialized roles within the department include, but are not limited to, the K9 unit, drone program, bike patrol (including eBikes), firearms instructor, evidence technician, detective, emergency vehicle operations instructor, defense and arrest tactics instructor, field training officer, community service officer, and school resource officer. For applicants with prior experience, our competitive salary and benefits package includes flexibility for the Chief to assign a starting step based on the officer's prior experience: one (1) year, three (3) years, five (5) years, or seven (7) years of seniority. Qualified lateral transfers may also receive up to two weeks of sick leave, depending on their years of experience. Job Duties and Responsibilities Preventative patrol, traffic enforcement, emergency and non-emergency calls for service, and investigations containing criminal matters. Qualifications Qualifications to Apply: Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, and a high school graduate or equivalent. Applicants must hold a valid Wisconsin driver's license, have binocular vision correctable to 20/20, and have no color blindness. Candidates should have no criminal history that is significantly related to the duties of a police officer and must be in good physical and mental health, with a weight that is reasonably proportionate to height. A minimum of 20 fully accredited college credits is required in order to be considered. Additionally, candidates must complete 60 fully accredited college credits within five years of hire. Applicants should also possess the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform essential law enforcement duties, operate standard police equipment, execute police use-of-force techniques, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Additional Information The selection process includes, but is not limited to; assessment day, strength and agility test, medical examination, character background investigation, psychological examination and drug testing. A probationary period of 18 months is required. IMPORTANT DATES TO NOTE:Application Deadline: Monday, March 30, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. Assessment Day: April 15 or 16, 2026 Assessment Day will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, unless there is a greater number of qualified applicants that requires two days of Assessments, in which case a second day (Thursday, April 16, 2026) will be scheduled as well. Assessments for each candidate are two hours and start times will be scheduled individually with each candidate. Candidates must successfully complete Assessment Day to advance. Police and Fire Commission (PFC) Interviews: Exact date TBD, Week of April 27, 2026 Interviews will be in the evening and will be scheduled individually with each candidate. Candidates must successfully complete this interview and be certified by the PFC to advance. Anticipated Hire Date: July 20 or August 3, 2026 This anticipated hire date is for candidates who have not yet been certified. One to two weeks of orientation training would begin prior to a paid sponsorship for the Police Academy, which begins August 17, 2026.
