Senior Systems AdministratorRole Summary The Senior Systems Administrator is a key contributor within the IT function, responsible for the stability, security, and performance of enterprise technology systems. This role partners closely with IT leadership to architect, deploy, and maintain infrastructure while also providing advanced technical assistance to internal users. The position requires strong independent judgment, proactive problem-solving, and a service-oriented mindset in a fast-paced environment. In addition to traditional systems administration, this role spans endpoint support, network operations, and cybersecurity, requiring a well-rounded technical professional capable of operating across multiple IT domains. Core ResponsibilitiesInfrastructure & Systems Administration Collaborate with IT leadership to monitor, maintain, and validate infrastructure health and reliability. Design, implement, and optimize systems, including performance tuning, resiliency planning, and recovery procedures. Administer servers, virtual machines, networking equipment, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, and printing systems. Perform system updates, patching, firmware upgrades, and configuration changes across the environment. Create and maintain standardized system images for servers and end-user devices. Diagnose and replace failed hardware components as needed. Support backup strategies, restoration testing, and disaster recovery initiatives. Security & Compliance Monitor and respond to security events across identity platforms, endpoint protection tools, and productivity suites. Remediate vulnerabilities, maintain configuration backups, and enforce endpoint and network security controls. Conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis. Assist with compliance efforts, security frameworks, and formal change management processes. Recommend and implement security best practices and productivity improvements. Cloud, Identity & Collaboration Platforms Administer Microsoft 365 services, including identity, access management, and security monitoring. Act as the primary technical resource for SharePoint Online, supporting configuration, governance, and optimization. Manage Active Directory and cloud identity platforms, including user provisioning, permissions, access requests, and password resets. Endpoint, Desktop & User Support Provide advanced support for desktops, laptops, and mobile devices through remote and onsite assistance. Troubleshoot software and hardware issues, manage deployments, and maintain accurate device inventories. Deliver a high standard of customer service by resolving issues efficiently and professionally. Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure proper access and asset handling. Maintain clear documentation for procedures, systems, and support tickets. Operations & Project Support Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to execute IT initiatives and infrastructure projects. Track and manage IT assets, ensuring records remain accurate and current. Support conference room technology and coordinate equipment purchasing. Log infrastructure activities and gather user feedback to support continuous improvement. Analyze the existing technology stack and identify opportunities for enhancement. Independently prioritize workload to align with organizational goals. Act as a designated backup for senior IT leadership on critical systems and operations. Required QualificationsEducation & Certifications Bachelor's degree in an information technology-related discipline or equivalent professional experience. Relevant technical certifications such as: Microsoft 365 Administration Network+ or CCNA (or equivalent) Linux+ or LPIC-1 Security+ or comparable credentials Technical Experience Strong hands-on experience administering SharePoint Online. Proficiency with enterprise hardware including desktops, laptops, servers, storage systems, printers, switches, firewalls, mobile devices, and wireless access points. Experience supporting tools and platforms such as: Microsoft 365 and Office applications Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP Endpoint protection and EDR solutions Backup and disaster recovery software VPNs, remote management tools, and helpdesk systems VOIP platforms and patch management solutions File-sharing and collaboration tools Working knowledge of operating systems including: Windows 10/11 Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 Linux distributions (including Ubuntu) NAS platforms such as Synology DSM Familiarity with virtualization technologies, business continuity planning, and disaster recovery. Exposure to security frameworks and technologies, including NIST-based controls, vulnerability remediation, cloud platforms, and enterprise firewalls. Professional Skills Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional technical support and customer service. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to manage priorities, lead technical initiatives, and solve complex problems independently.
