Cytotechnologist - Casual Hours - Day Shift

Company : Allegheny Health Network Job Description : GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Cytotechnologist will independently administer routine and specialized procedures on patient specimens, contributing significantly to patient care and diagnosis. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform microscopic screening of gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides, ensuring that the minimum screening output standard is consistently met. Utilize imaging technology for gynecologic slides when applicable. (60%) Prepare and process specimens, providing assistance to pathologists, radiologists, and clinicians with fine needle aspirates as needed, adhering to departmental policies and safety guidelines. (15%) Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation, identifying and resolving quality control issues to ensure the reliability of clinical information. (10%) Engage in continuous education to stay updated on emerging technologies and assist in training fellow healthcare providers. (10%) Maintain a clean work environment and ensure adequate supplies are available for efficient departmental functioning. Participate in annual proficiency testing with success. (5%) Select specimens requiring pathologist review, quality control, and assurance processes. Perform any additional duties as assigned to support the team. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Bachelor's degree from an ASCP eligible program or a Bachelor's degree along with a one-year certificate program. Preferred CT (ASCP) certification.
