The OCI Speech Science team is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge applications such as Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Text-To-Speech (TTS), Speech-To-Speech (S2S) translation, and conversational AI. Our primary goal is to offer secure, scalable speech and language services that meet diverse enterprise needs globally. As a Lead Applied Scientist within the OCI Generative AI Science team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a talented group of scientists and engineers in researching, developing, and refining AI models for speech and conversational applications. This position allows you to deepen your expertise and make substantial contributions to production-level AI services for Oracle's international clientele. Responsibilities Design, implement, and critically evaluate deep learning models and algorithms for speech recognition, synthesis, translation, and conversational AI applications. Take ownership of specific project components from initial research and data analysis through experimental validation and prototype development until delivery of scalable solutions. Work collaboratively with fellow applied scientists, engineers, and product managers to bring innovative technical ideas and strategies to core OCI Speech Science initiatives. Conduct thorough error analysis and troubleshooting to enhance model performance and reliability. Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, draft experimental reports, and present findings in team or cross-team meetings. Stay informed about recent advancements in AI/ML and speech/language technologies to identify practical applications for OCI products. Uphold best practices related to responsible AI, model validation, and data security. Qualifications & Experience PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Linguistics, or related disciplines, with a focus on machine learning, speech processing, NLP, or AI. Alternatively, a Master's degree paired with substantial research or project experience in these fields. Up to 5 years of relevant post-graduate experience, whether in academia or the industry. Proven track record of independently advancing research or applied projects from concept through to implementation and results analysis. Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch. Practical experience in areas such as ASR, TTS, S2S translation, conversational AI, or other related NLP topics. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills in AI/ML or speech and language processing domains. Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, particularly in technical documentation and presentations. A collaborative spirit with a proactive attitude in a fast-paced team environment. Compensation & Benefits: Hiring range is between $97,500 and $199,500 with eligibility for bonuses and equity.
