This full-time role involves the precise and safe administration of prescribed radiation doses using advanced therapy equipment, ensuring patient comfort and treatment accuracy. General Summary The Radiation Therapist is an essential member of the healthcare team, trained to operate radiation therapy machinery in accordance with established protocols and safety standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administer prescribed radiation doses accurately to targeted body areas using specialized equipment. Position and image patients consistently and precisely according to treatment prescriptions. Provide emergent care to patients during on-call hours. Document treatments, schedule appointments, and manage billing through electronic health records. Conduct daily operational and safety inspections of linear accelerators and simulation devices. Adhere strictly to radiation safety principles to protect patients, self, and colleagues. Simulate patient treatments under physician supervision and fabricate immobilization devices as needed. Verify all treatment plan data against physician prescriptions before initiating therapy. Train and oversee students or junior radiotherapy technologists. Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold a professional, positive, and cooperative demeanor. Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives. Educate and support patients and their families by addressing questions, providing physical assistance, and reinforcing medical advice regarding treatment effects and aftercare. Education Graduation from an accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology is required. Experience At least one year of experience in radiation oncology is preferred. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and attention to detail are essential. Computer proficiency is advantageous. Certification and Licenses Registered Radiation Therapist (ARRT) certification or eligibility in Radiation Therapy is mandatory. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Mental and Physical Requirements This role demands significant mental focus and the ability to work under stressful conditions related to patient care. Physical activities include lifting up to 60 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Standard radiation safety precautions apply, with minimal exposure to radioactive materials. Occasional exposure to biohazards, infectious diseases, and challenging individuals may occur. Flexibility in scheduling and on-call duties is expected.
