Job Summary The Health Research and Analytics (HRA) business line is looking for a dedicated, full-time Mental Health Technician to support our mission with U.S. Special Operations Command. This role significantly contributes to the Preservation of the Forces and Family (POTFF) program, emphasizing the enhancement and sustainability of the mission readiness, longevity, and performance of Special Operations Forces (SOF). By engaging in integrated and holistic human performance initiatives, POTFF ensures comprehensive support for both the forces and their families. Joining us as a Mental Health Technician means making a substantial impact in the lives of SOF personnel and their families while thriving in a dynamic, mission-focused environment. This position will focus on supporting outpatient behavioral health activities. You'll conduct intake interviews, assist with patient care, and lead therapeutic sessions under the supervision of licensed professionals. The role requires various administrative and clinical tasks, such as data collection, report preparation, meeting coordination, record management, supply oversight, and providing information to staff and families. Independent judgment, initiative, and problem-solving abilities will be essential for ensuring effective program operations and high-quality patient care. Responsibilities Support the management and treatment of outpatient behavioral health services. Assist in providing diverse behavioral health interventions—from prevention to treatment—under the direction of licensed professionals. Conduct intake assessments, help in the care of psychiatric and substance abuse patients, and provide counseling to individuals facing personal, behavioral, or psychological issues with professional support. Work independently to handle standard and unique assignments and resolve various non-standard issues proactively. Assign tasks by defining objectives, setting priorities, and establishing deadlines while guiding team members on less defined assignments. Exercise discretion in finding and implementing the most suitable guidelines relevant to the current work conditions. Refer distinct matters to the Government supervisor for guidance when policies or regulations are not clear. Monitor patients to identify behavioral patterns and communicate observations to licensed behavioral health staff. Lead individual or group therapy sessions as prescribed, under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional. Complete initial intake interviews for new patients and ensure required documentation is submitted on behalf of the licensed provider. Additional Responsibilities Depending on location and assignment specifics, you may: Conduct intake interviews with oversight from licensed mental health professionals. Administer psychological and psychophysiological tests under the guidance of credentialed psychologists or medical professionals, compiling data and preparing reports. Create and maintain a computerized database to monitor personnel and training statistics. Prepare various daily correspondences, including clinical appointments, meeting agendas, and training schedules. Collect and maintain monthly statistical data for the workplace and prepare attendance rosters for active-duty personnel utilizing behavioral health services. Assist in developing operating instructions for programs and making recommendations for operational efficiency with providers. Review office timesheets to ensure program compliance with budget requirements. Organize and implement appointment templates for clinical staff. Ensure proper inventory levels and procure necessary behavioral health supplies. Assist in data gathering for presentations and process improvement initiatives. Manipulate data effectively using various software applications for reporting purposes. Respond to inquiries concerning appointments and provide information to military and civilian personnel. Coordinate with family support organizations within the Command. Maintain competency folders as per program policy requirements. Organize Case Review Committee meetings and prepare agendas. Prepare detailed case reports for outpatient medical records in compliance with relevant regulations. Manage a resource library to support practitioners in education, clinical social work, and family studies. Offer support services to families seeking guidance on healthy family dynamics and parenting skills. Key Qualifications An Associate degree or equivalent training, such as military mental health technician certification. A minimum of three years of experience in a psychiatric technician role. A solid understanding of psychology and/or social work fundamentals. Knowledge in conflict management and de-escalation techniques for crisis scenarios involving agitated or potentially violent individuals. Training in intervention techniques, including restrained methods for violent or suicidal patients. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
