Substitute paraprofessionals play an important role in our schools by assisting students with special educational needs. Duties and Responsibilities Follow work schedule as given. Follow all BVIU and school policies and procedures. Demonstrate the ability to follow written Individualized Educational Programs, and assist with progress monitoring. Demonstrate ability to effectively deescalate student behaviors, and follow taught crisis intervention techniques. Assist the students with toileting and self-care needs. Assist teachers, substitutes, and others with assigned students. Assist with clerical duties. Assist with supervision of students. Accompany students to special classes and other areas as assigned. Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor. Qualifications Annual completion of required number of paraprofessional hours. Consistently demonstrate ability to effectively interact with and assist students with special needs. Follow directives of assigned teachers and supervisors. Demonstrate compassion for students and their families. Demonstrate the ability to work well with coworkers. Maintain a minimum of proficiency, or equivalent, in all areas of evaluation. Demonstrate confidentiality inside and outside of the work place. Requirements Minimum age of eighteen (18) years. Clean criminal background. Three (3) positive professional references. Experience working with school aged children. After Hire (Contingent) Three background checks required: Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) Complete PDE approved classroom management training at an intermediate unit.
