Salary: See Position Description Location : Albemarle, NC Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 2000144 Department: Health Department Opening Date: 01/13/2026 Closing Date: Continuous Job Description Performs comprehensive nutrition counseling and health promotion services, including screening, planning, and implementing nutritional care for individuals and groups requiring comprehensive nutrition needs. An employee in this class is responsible for providing comprehensive and in-depth nutrition assessment and counseling, with significant time dealing with patients with chronic medical problems and/or high-risk clients in the WIC Program. Work may include nutrition consultations, health promotion, and educational sessions with other healthcare professionals. Work is performed in accordance with established guidelines and is evaluated through a work review and an assessment of overall program effectiveness. Starting pay for a nutritionist I is $43,279 or DOQ Examples of Job Duties Determines medical eligibility of patients for the WIC program using established guidelines. Provides nutrition consultation and education sessions to other health care professionals. Coordinates County and Worksite health promotion activities. Provides lactation education and support for clients who choose to breastfeed. Provides nutrition counseling and education to patients in hypertension, diabetic, family planning, pediatric, high-risk obstetrics clinics, and WIC Program. Completes nutrition assessments by analyzing data obtained from patient interviews and review of medical history, laboratory and clinical data. Develops a care plan based on information collected and knowledge of the clinical application of nutrition. Provides diet instruction to patients verbally and with educational aids such as pamphlets and posters. Charts in medical record subjective and objective data, assessment, and plan of action. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to express ideas and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Considerable knowledge of principles of normal and therapeutic nutrition and health promotion. Considerable knowledge and skill in nutrition and dietary assessment techniques (anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary), and data interpretation. Knowledge of human behavior and techniques for effecting behavior change. Ability to write clear and concise entries using the protocol for progress notes in patients' medical records .Ability to interview and provide counseling. Ability to communicate with patients tactfully, courteously, and effectively. Qualifications Graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition dietetics or public health nutrition; or a bachelor's degree in home economics with 12 hours in nutrition coursework with one year of experience in the field of nutrition, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid N.C. driver. A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement Stanly County is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. STANLY COUNTY BENEFITS (Full-time Employees) Employees accrue sick and vacation time each paycheck. Stanly County observes twelve (12) holidays. New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday), Christmas (3 days). Employees receive one (1) personal day per year. INSURANCE BENEFITS: Stanly County provides health & vision insurance with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Our plan is a PPO, 80/20, with a $1000 deductible. Teledoc is offered through our insurance for a $10 co-pay per visit. Primary care visit is a $40 co-payment. Specialist is $50 co-pay. One free eye exam per year. The insurance coverage is FREE to full-time employees. Dental Coverage is with Guardian dental insurance and is FREE to full-time employees. Other volunteer insurance benefits include: Flexible Spending Program, Life Insurance, Cancer, Accident, and Disability policies. Stanly County offers an employee health clinic. Our on-site Advance Practice Provider will see employees and dependents covered on our county insurance plan free of charge. This service does not replace your primary healthcare providers but augments their care. As a wellness benefit, employees have the option of joining the Stanly County YMCA. The County will pay half of the employee's membership. Employee Assistant Program is offered through Atrium Health. Each employee will receive up to six (6) free sessions on a rolling year. Dependent children and/or spouse may also use the sessions. RETIREMENT: Stanly County Employees will be a member of the N. C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Stanly County is required to withhold six percent (6%) from each paycheck and deposit it into the retirement system. The County also contributes to the plan. You are vested at five years as a contributing member. After one year of contributing membership in the system, a death benefit is available if you die while still in active service or within 180 days of your last day of service. NC 401(k) (Supplemental Retirement Plan): Employees can contribute to the Empower 401(k) plan upon hire. If the employee contributes at least one percent (1%), Stanly County will match one percent (1%). Additionally, employees may make additional contributions through the following options: 457 Deferred Compensation Plan and Roth Plan Option. LONGEVITY: Longevity pay is earned after three (3) years of continuous Local Government retirement benefited service working with Stanly County government.
