Purpose of Announcement EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL FOUR (4) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCIES AND ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN VARIOUS PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENTS. This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur. Kind of Work The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently operate a Vacuum Truck (such as Vactor, Vac-Con), and to perform minor maintenance and servicing of the assigned equipment in accordance to existing safety programs, work standards, and procedures. Besides operating a Vacuum Truck (such as Vactor, Vac-Con), the operator will be required to inspect and maintain the equipment's tire inflation; oil levels; leaks (oil, fuel, water, etc.); coolant in radiator; lights and signal devices; clear and clean windows, lamp lenses, mirrors; and functioning windshield wipers. May also be required to operate all equipment assigned to lower level Equipment Operators, as well as all equipment assigned to the level of Equipment Operator IV, as assigned by the department. Depending on the assigned vehicles, Equipment Operator IV may be required to possess a valid Louisiana Class A Commercial Driver's License in order to perform the tasks associated with the position. Performs related work as required. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Possession of a current Louisiana Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)and an acceptable driving record; PLUS: 1. Minimum of three (3) months of verifiable, satisfactory work experience operating a Vacuum Truck, such as a Vactor or Vac-Con (or a minimum of three (3) months of adequate on-the-job training operating a Vacuum Truck, as certified by an appointing authority); OR 2. Verifiable completion of an approved training course in the operation of a Vacuum Truck, such as a Vactor or Vac-Con. NOTE: A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from a state other than Louisiana is acceptable; however, once an offer of employment is made, applicants have ten (10) days to acquire the appropriate Louisiana CDL. Failure to obtain a Louisiana license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position. Copies of licenses and certificates awarded for completion of training should be submitted with application. Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate. A Flexible Savings Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available. Retirement Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with 10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service. Tenure Payment Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year. Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid. Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan) Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings. Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.
