With the graduation of its first class in 1985, the CVM is one of the younger veterinary programs in the country. Despite its relative youth, the College has gained international recognition on the strength of its teaching, research, engagement, and patient care efforts and is ranked 5th among the nation's 30 colleges of veterinary medicine in the most recent U.S. News & World Report survey. Located on 180 acres near downtown Raleigh, the College encompasses 20 buildings on the main Centennial Biomedical Campus. In addition to the four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, the College offers Masters and Doctoral degrees. Faculty and students work across disciplines, employing cutting edge technologies in both basic and applied research in human and veterinary medicine. The CVM Office of the Associate Dean for Research provides support to the faculty and their sponsored research, to provide quality proposal preparation to ensure financial compliance and management, to assist the University and principal investigators to manage intellectual properties, to enable the departments to obtain the necessary financial support for graduate student researchers, to manage post award activities and to enable sponsors to expeditiously and satisfactorily do business with the College and University, and to minimize the University's legal risk exposure in research and service agreements and activities. Furthermore, the Office of the Associate Dean for Research functions as the main contact point between the faculty and the university research administration (ex. Office of Research Innovation and Economic Development, and Contracts and Grants). Thus, the primary function of the Office of the Associate Dean for Research is to oversee and enhance the research program within the College. Essential Job DutiesPrimary Responsibilities Your core focus will be providing high-quality diagnostic services while shaping the next generation of veterinary professionals. Necropsy Service (32 weeks):16 weeks of active necropsy floor service. 16 weeks of dedicated readout and report finalization. Biopsy Service: 4 weeks of surgical pathology/biopsy service annually. Clinical Instruction: Provide hands-on training to 4th-year veterinary students during their necropsy rotations. Mentorship: Actively mentor pathology residents during their service rotations, fostering their diagnostic and professional growth. Academic Contribution: Prepare and deliver 1-2 gross image rounds and histopathology conferences per year for the department. Candidate Requirements To be successful in this role, you must meet the following professional standards: Certification: Board certified or board eligible by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP). Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in anatomic pathology and a strong commitment to educational excellence. Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively teach and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team. Other Responsibilities Optional activities include didactic and selectives teaching in the veterinary curriculum, and serving on resident mentoring committees. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience DVM and board certified or board eligible in anatomic pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology and at least 3 years experience in a diagnostic pathology service. Other Required Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in anatomic pathology and a strong commitment to educational excellence. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively teach and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team. Preferred Qualifications At least 5 years of experience in diagnostic pathology service. Experience in teaching veterinary students and residents.
