Position: Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant Department: Physical Therapy JOB SUMMARY Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) will conduct outpatient and inpatient mix under the super vision of the Physical Therapist. QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited school of physical therapy Current Mississippi Physical Therapist Assistant certification ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONS PTA will assess patient's needs and render appropriate care. Perform patient teaching and discharge planning. Function as a member of the healthcare team in delivering mission-driven, quality patient care. Demonstrate knowledge of standards of care for physical therapy. Willingly acquire new knowledge and skills needed. Demonstrate actions which create a positive experience for the customer as well as promote positive teamwork with co-workers. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / ASSIGNED TASKS Demonstrate performance standards Appropriately observe and evaluate patient Develop and implement the appropriate physical therapy component of the patient POC Assess patient's pain and intervene appropriately Provide patient teaching appropriate to the patient/caregiver's learning/education level regarding physical therapy, patient needs, safety and infection control in the home and other related problems. Develop and document attainable goals Follow agency policy regarding discharge planning, completes necessary discharge information (D/C Summary/OASIS) Communicate with and document patient updates to physician, other members of the health care team and to the patient's medical record timely and accurately Maintain patient confidentiality Supervise nurse aide when appropriate according to agency policy and document correctly Attend all in-services, education programs and scheduled meeting as outlined by the Team Leader or Director Maintain and demonstrate a constant awareness of legal and ethical aspects of physical therapy Consistently demonstrate proper judgment in the delivery of patient care; provide patient care within the scope of service for physical therapy Observe standard precautions Follow orders given by provider Perform other job duties and tasks as assigned
