Position Description: Senior Clinical Veterinarian for Non-Human Primates Location: Temperate Coastal South MiamiAbout the Role: Are you an experienced clinical veterinarian with a passion for leading and mentoring a team of professionals dedicated to exceptional animal care? We are seeking a Senior Clinical Veterinarian to join our distinguished team, working primarily with non-human primates, including rhesus macaques, in an AAALAC accredited, PHS assured, and CDC registered facility. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with at least 5 years of lab animal experience, ready to take on leadership responsibilities and contribute to the growth and development of both the program and its team members. Key Responsibilities: - Lead and mentor a team of junior veterinarians and veterinary staff, fostering their professional development and career growth. - Provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for laboratory animals, ensuring humane veterinary support. - Conduct and oversee physical, ophthalmic, and other necessary exams on laboratory animals. - Offer expertise in animal health, biology, physiology, and research methodology to staff scientists and technicians, providing training as needed. - Assist the Director in the oversight of the animal care and use program, ensuring compliance with policies and practices related to animal care and welfare. - Manage the activities of the assigned section to ensure effective performance and high standards of animal care. - Serve as acting department head in the Director's absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and operations. - Report and resolve all animal care concerns promptly. - Engage in the business operations of import, export, and quarantine of an animal supplier. - Participate in the breeding colony, overseeing primates at various life stages, including neonatal, juvenile, pregnancy, weaning, pairing, and behavioral enrichment. - Perform procedures such as C-sections, ultrasounds, nutritional monitoring, dystocia management, and routine health exams for a large population. Ideal Candidate Will Have: - At least 5 years of experience in lab animal medicine. - DACLAM highly preferred - Clinical experience with non-human primates is highly desirable. - Proven leadership and team management skills. - Active DEA registration. - Ability to obtain a Texas DVM license within 30 days of the offer. - Willingness to work with laboratory animals in a research/laboratory setting. - Excellent communication skills, a focus on compliance, and a commitment to animal health and welfare.
