This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while promoting resident safety, staff education, and positive quality outcomes.The Infection Preventionist must be a professionally trained Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) with extensive knowledge of medical technology, microbiology, and epidemiology.Essential FunctionsCoordinate, develop, implement, manage, and evaluate the Infection Prevention and Control Program in accordance with CDC, CMS, TDH, and other applicable public health guidelinesOversee and manage the Antibiotic Stewardship Program, including monitoring antibiotic use and resistance patternsMaintain current knowledge of national, state, and local infection prevention regulations and best practicesInterpret and analyze clinical and laboratory data to identify infection trends, outbreaks, and risksConduct ongoing infection surveillance, investigations, and required reportingDevelop and implement corrective actions related to infection control concernsEnsure compliance with infection prevention policies and procedures across all departmentsEducate, train, and support staff to ensure infection prevention competencies are met and maintainedEnsure completion of required infection prevention training, including:Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) overviewInfection surveillance and outbreak managementStandard and transmission-based precautionsWound care and resident care practicesWater managementLinen handling and managementPrevention of respiratory infectionsTuberculosis (TB) preventionQuality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI)Care transitionsParticipate in the Quality Assessment and Assurance (QAA) CommitteePrepare and present routine and as-needed reports on infection prevention activities and outcomesCollaborate with leadership, clinical staff, and external agenciesAssist with survey preparedness and regulatory response related to infection preventionServe as a resource for infection prevention questions and concernsQualificationsCurrent, active Tennessee LPN or RN license in good standingMinimum of two (2) years of experience as an LPN or RNMinimum of two (2) years of experience in a long-term care settingClinical experience in a skilled nursing environment preferredStrong knowledge of infection prevention and control practices, microbiology, epidemiology, and medical technologyAbility to interpret clinical and laboratory dataExcellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skillsEffective written and verbal communication skillsAbility to educate and influence staff at all levelsProficiency with basic computer applications and electronic health recordsAwareness of and sensitivity to the needs of geriatric residents strongly preferred
