Assistant Engineer: This entry-level role is ideal for early career engineers eager to gain hands on experience in public infrastructure. Under the guidance of senior staff, the Assistant Engineer supports a wide range of engineering functions, preparing construction plans, contract documents, environmental permitting, coordinating construction activities, and reviewing development proposals. You'll work on stormwater and wastewater while contributing to capital improvement planning, asset management, and utility coordination. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering (or a related field), two years of relevant experience, and be on track for California PE licensure. Associate Engineer: This mid-level role is perfect for engineers with a strong foundation in civil engineering and a passion for public infrastructure. The Associate Engineer manages complex projects, performs design review and construction management duties, and coordinates with internal departments and external agencies. You'll support long-range planning and may direct support staff. ABOUT THE DISTRICT The Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District (the District) is an independent special district established by the State of California in 1952 to manage wastewater collection and treatment and protect the Vallejo community from flooding. Operating independently of the City of Vallejo, the District's dedicated team enhances the city's sanitary sewer and storm drain systems, delivering high-quality service to the community. Governance is provided by an eight-member Board of Trustees, composed of the seven Vallejo City Council members and one at-large member appointed by the Solano County Board of Supervisors. With 98 full-time equivalent employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $47 million, the District is committed to safeguarding public health, safety, and the environment through reliable wastewater and flood control services. All Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District employees are, by state and federal law, Disaster Service Workers. The roles and responsibilities for Disaster Service Workers are authorized by the California Emergency Services Act and are defined in the California Labor Code. In the event of a declaration of emergency, any employee may be assigned to perform activities that promote the protection of public health and safety or the preservation of lives and property. The assignment may require service at locations, times, and under conditions that are significantly different from normal work assignments and may continue into the recovery phase of the emergency. If a "Local Emergency" is declared during the employee's shift, employees will be expected to remain at work to respond to the community's emergency needs. If a "Local Emergency" is declared outside of the employee's shift, employees must make every effort to contact their direct supervisor or department head to obtain reporting instructions as a Disaster Service Worker. Under Vallejo Wastewater's retiree medical vesting plan, all retirees hired on or after 11/1/2013 must have a minimum of ten (10) years of service as a CalPERS member including a minimum of five (5) years of service at Vallejo Wastewater to qualify for a premium contribution. The maximum premium contribution is based on the CalPERS 100/90 formula and coverage level. The percentage of the CalPERS 100/90 amount contributed by Vallejo Wastewater is determined by full years of CalPERS service.
