General Summary The Director, Direct Response Marketing, is responsible for creating and managing a direct response capability for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC). The immediate areas of focus will be the data-driven Annual Giving program which raises annual, unrestricted contributions from individuals and the Academy which markets webinars and courses to a number of segments within the fields of physical medicine and rehabilitation.  This role utilizes data understanding and application; develops strategies for segmentation; conducts variable testing and messaging refinement; determines frequency of communication to key audiences; solicits and stewards donors, prospects and clinical professionals; and measures and analyzes key metrics. Recognized as the leader in its field by U.S. News & World Report for 25 consecutive years, RIC combines state-of-the-art care with breakthrough thinking and research. Most recently, RIC has launched a transformational strategy to Advance Human Ability. In March 2017, RIC will move into its new research hospital — AbilityLab. This purpose-built facility will integrate research and clinical care, surrounding patients 24/7 with doctors, researchers, nurses, therapists, technologists and entrepreneurs to offer patients superior outcomes faster. The Director will consistently demonstrate support of the RIC statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute. The Director will demonstrate RIC Core Attributes: Communication, Accountability, Flexibility/Adaptability, Judgment/Problem Solving, Customer Service and RIC Values (Hope, Compassion, Discovery, Collaboration, & Commitment to Excellence) while fulfilling job duties. Principal Responsibilities The Director, Direct Response Marketing will: Raise a specified annual revenue goal with a portfolio of donors from direct mail, email, social, employee and patient communities.Reach clinical professionals and drive budgeted increases in course registrations.Work collaboratively across Advancement, Academy, Marketing and Senior Leadership teams to develop long-term strategies for successful direct response marketing including prospecting new targets and managing stewardship of existing donors and academy students.Develop analytical framework for all strategies and tactics including variable testing and segmentation. Leverage a variety of analytics tools across various channels to develop prospect insights to more effectively engage with continually optimized content.Help create and execute direct mail, email, social media solicitations, and telemarketing programs and works with Development Services and Academy teams to continually improve practices and results.Develop, manage and grow Giving communities, monthly giving programs and other initiatives to promote sustained support. Develop and grow a patient giving program.Collaborate with other RIC departments to develop stewardship plans for Annual donors, including personalized donation acknowledgement, and donor communications.Work with major gift staff to identify, cultivate, and steward major gift prospects for restricted and unrestricted giving.Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of RIC. Reporting Relationships Reports directly to Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Bachelor’s degree required. MBA desirable.A minimum of 5 years of related professional experience in direct response marketing.Demonstrated aptitude and success leading a data driven environment.Creative discernment with some graphics experience in developing creative for direct mail, emails and social media posts.Ability to discern optimal activities and touch points to increase philanthropy or revenue.A vision for the growth and development of an annual giving program.Experience and success working as a collaborator with colleagues, volunteers, and other institutional leaders engaged in philanthropic or revenue generating activities.Self-directed, highly motivated professional who also values and enjoys being part of a collaborative teamExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set and manage priorities, and meet deadlinesStrong knowledge of information technology tools such as the Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and appropriate web-based applications and services.Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.  Working Conditions Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
